Yes as a coach....no it would seem as a manager...Like Cjd posted on another thread if Knight had made up his mind after xmas then Wilkins should of gone then....

Christ on a bike, he got us to 7th in his 1st full season. of course he was up to the job. Whether he is good enough for the expectations of the club and it's fickle OVER expectant fans is another thing altogether

...agreed, which I might point out was well beyond the expectations of many on NSC when the season started.

He wasn't the greatest manager we've ever had, but he was getting better and I'll be interested to see what he does in his next job. Gordon Strachan said he was actually a better manager when Coventry sacked him than when they employed him as it was his first job and he learnt from his mistakes as he went along. IMO Wilkins was getting better the longer he did it.

7th means nothing , why keep going on about 7th, 7th is failing, 1st - 6th is achieving

yes he took a over a team lacking in key players, right back and forward line, brought his own players in got a winning team had it ripped apart and then built again to finish 7th which is more than most people on here would have thought beginning of the season

So does that make Mickey Adams a failure, as he didn't get into the play-offs in his first two seasons with us either and at a lower league level than Wilkins? - Wilkins may have got us promotion next season, so would he then have become a cult hero like Adams.

Too many big money pay-days missed last season due to a team failing to be motivated to come out like professionals and do the business. Port Vale and Mansfield results ruined the season and pissed the good results up the wall.

I agree

I think some people need a reality check.....we are a third division side with a decent coach, and have replaced him with a name from the past when whatever his "man management skills" everyone who knows( or more importantly does't know) he saved us from relegation to the FOUTH division and then got us to withing a whisker of the playoffs.

If Adams doesn't make the playoffs, as Knight recond he is the man to do it, then this smacks as one huge f*** up by the board
