He did a very good job I felt, finishing higher than a lot of teams with more money and resources.

Rubbish.

He had plenty of money for the third division and splashed out the biggest transfere fee we spent for 25 years. And still couldn't put a decent run of results together. And there seemed to be quite a lot of management issues that he didn't, wouldn't or couldn't (delete as you feel applicable) deal with.

I'm sorry but I think that division was really poor last year and there for the taking. We had the chance and didn't take it. Plus quite a lot of the football at Withdene was deadly dull to watch.

Persoanlly I was wishing he would go from Christmas onwards as I felt we were just stagnating

Thats rubbish also_One player doesn't make a team i'm afraid.Murray was a good signing but we had gaps in our squad all over the place.I personally thought we over achieved a bit and thats down to Wilkins. He also brought Elphick into the team and put faith into a rookie defender who turns out to be outstanding. The squad wasn't good enough to go up fall stop so fininshing 7th was all that we could ask for.Wilkins was assembling a good squad for the future.Knight also needs to take some blame for letting key players go at the wrong time. Also Wilkins had to rebuild quickly after xmas and he done that superbly

AFTER signing Murray (untested at this level) we averaged 1.62 points a game. That would get you 74.52 points over the whole season, which is generally playoff form. Unfortunately the damage had been done earlier in the season when we squandered too many chances against Walsall etc. etc. The fixtures including a large pile up AND we took on all of the top six.

Not up to it, I'm afraid. DK got rid of him at the right time with plenty of time for MA to work some signings over the summer.

I don't subscribe to this argument that we have to reduce our ambitions for the club to the level of trying to satisfy loyal servants of the club. Yes, he was a great coach, yes he worked wonders with the youth team, yes he got us to seventh League One.

Is that good enough for BHA? In my opinion, no. We need to be in the Championship - we need to get promotion - those aren't RIDICULOUSLY HIGH expectations, I don't think. The board made the right decision to further that aim.

I'm going to lie down now...

Up to what job?

His brief was to keep us in the divsion, build a competitive squad and push for promotion, which is what he's done, so YES he was up to that job.

If you mean whether he was up to getting us promotion then NO, I don't think he would have been.

But let's get one thing clear- he has been a BRILLIANT servant to this club, and if we have any success in the coming few seasons he deserves a share of the credit. I don't have a bad word to say about him.

I agree with the Adams appointment but I'm also aware he walked out on this club before, something that Wilkins has never done.

Yes, he was up to the job, but...

The question should have been "Was he the best manager available to the club?"

Answer = "No"...

We have more chance of success under MA, so a great decision by DK and the board...

Wilkins has never done... yet!

In the words of DK early i the season' we are hoping for promotion this season' we didnt even make the play offs, for whatever reason so he failed and as such has been replaced. Lets hope that MA can live up to our expectations.

If every club adopted such an arrogant position they'd only be six managers in each division from the Championship down who didn't get the sack. I really hope there was way more to the sacking than anything quite as simplistic as that.

I think that the emphasis is on didnt EVEN make the play offs. Had we done so and lost he would have achieved something. As it was finishing 7th is no better than 17th and also the gates were down possibly due to the boring way in which we played most games.

No - it became clear that he didn't have what was necessary to be a manager. I would have got rid of him about 4 weeks ago.

So finishing 24th under McGhee was abject failure.

Glad that is sorted.

McGhee's 24th place finish was in a much stronger, higher division and this after he got us up there and kept us there for a season completely against the odds. It wasn't in a piss poor League 1 which this division was last season.

I think the continued drop in bums on seats is the real issue here. Whatever the merits of Wilkins as a manager the return of MA has generated an enormous amount of interest. I actually thought the football last season was the most enjoyable since the season McGhee kept us in the Championship. We played some great stuff in patches, won severall matches after going behind and in the likes of Forster, Cox, Murray and Elphick had players the equal of virtually any in the division. I couldn't understand why so many were still so negative. I think it's become a habit for certain supporters.

But lets not forget that McGhee did have a stronger squad to pick from including 3 future internationals.
