On waking this afternoon I put the radio on snooze, and listened to his programme on FiveLive. For those of you of a certain age his guests were Jeff Wayne and Sue Townsend, and the next part a debate with the British Space Agency.

This should be on the BBC i-player later and is well worth a listen.

I don't like his WARTS
He should sort them out. Get a rat to gnaw them off or something.

Of course! Had he been talking about Kerry, I'd have been first in line to SHOWER the praise on Brighton's answer to Roberto Carlos. Simon Mayo can f*** off though. He's the classic example of someone getting a job, not being very good at it, but somehow keeping hold of it for AGES and then the employer not having it in their heart to put him out of his misery. He must have been at the BBC, ooh, 12 years now? The thing I find INCREDIBLE is that not one director general or chairman has wanted to get rid of him.

He is not my favourite Fivelive presenter, but that is a bit harsh. How can he have done that much to rile you?

Didn't one DG get rid of him, only for his replacement to offer him a new show, soon afterwards?

I think you might be right. They had a young, up and coming director there who saw right through Simon. He KNEW he was shit, and he KNEW he wouldn't pull in the listeners any longer. You could say that guy knew his radio, and that his plan would have worked well in the long run. Trouble is the big boss wanted to bring 'home' the spiritual king of the BBC - some chap who'd done well there years ago. Now, don't get me wrong, I think he's a legend who needs time to turn round an unsteady BBC ship, but I really can't see why he kept Simon Mayo on. PANTS decision, and one we're paying for now.

MAYO OUT!

But the film review with Mark Kermode is quality on Friday.

I do tend to listen to him at work but was quite busy today so didn't get a chance to.
Always enjoy hes programme and Wednesdays are good with PMQ's

Only negative really is when Spurs have a great result he does half go on about it (bit like NSC then?!? :Jester:)

Yes, yes I am. I rather enjoy his show because it has an amateurish feel at times to it, and that could only happen on Five Live.

Mind you Five Live also let the saviour also known as Danny Baker back now and again and I can see the DG wincing through the radio as he is on, which I love.

On the same subject though, and talking about wasters, Brand and Ross must be up there.

I am quite reassured that the kiddies don't like Simon Mayo. I hate anything to do with Radio 1 with a passion because i'm in my 30's (My wife had Scott Mills on the other day - I had to have words). It shows that the world is going round on its axis properly if Simon Mayo is hated by the younger generation.

There is good news for those who want to have Mayo removed from Fivelive, I have read that he will be replacing Ken Bruce on Radio 2, next year, part off the policy to introduce younger presenters.

Simon Mayo is a Worthing boy I think, or at least he lived there as a youngster.

I remember his very first breakfast show on Radio 1, he introduced the first song,

"This is Inks and their new single 'Need you tonight' (or some such, can't rememebr the name of the song)."

(He was refering to INXS)
