Simon Mayo is a Worthing boy I think

He is indeed, or at least spent a fair part of his childhood here. Comes back to see his parents, who still live here.

I don't know the guy, but think he does an OK job in the radio shows I've heard him on. Less convinced by his TV stuff, though.

I can remember when Simon Mayo used to do the breakfast show on Radio 1, accompanied, if I recall correctly, by Jakki Brambles reading the news.

:eek:ldgit:

The BBC wasn't so self-consciously trendy in those days...

For those with a Sky box its worth flicking through the radio channels and discover DJs on the smaller stations that used to be on Radio 1 over thirty years ago.

Simon Mayo was doing the breakfast show on Radio 1 in 1992, I know beause he played Too busy thinking about my baby by Marvin Gaye when I was in early labour.

I don't rate him at all so I will be begging & pleading for Ken Bruce to stay:blush:

My first date with the present Mrs Titanic was to see Chariots of Fire in the now defunct Odeon cinema in Worthing, with Simon Mayo, his then girlfriend, his brother Jonathan (who also works with the BBC) + girlfriend... and all squashed into his granny's white automatic mini!

June 1981 - Happy days :)

Ah, the Worthing Odeon, you could sneak form one screen to another in there, so you could get in to see an 'X' movie by paying to see James Bond, and then a little furtive sneak and hey presto, Alien!

On waking this afternoon I put the radio on snooze, and listened to his programme on FiveLive. For those of you of a certain age his guests were Jeff Wayne and Sue Townsend, and the next part a debate with the British Space Agency.

This should be on the BBC i-player later and is well worth a listen.

I download his podcast every day - he is quality.

I don't understand this thread.

I never liked Simon Mayo on Radio 1, but think he's really good on 5 Live. He obviously prepares well for his interviews, and lets his guests speak, unlike some other presenters who fancy themselves more than the guests.

Some of you might be even more unhappy to hear he recently won a broadcasting award for that show, and I think the Friday Film reviews is the best hour of radio of the week.

Differences of opinion, but I'm amazed you think he's actually that bad. Of all the people on the radio... then again, maybe you're Chris Moyles fans or something..

I like him and his show but the film reviews with Mark Kermode just annoy me so much I end up having to turn over.
They are NOT a funny double act.
