I like most of the suggestions but, unless I've missed it, no one has focused on a very important point. The crust - the shortcrust pie pastry - must be right or the whole thing fails.

I'm a fan of the chicken pies myself, but the steak pies are a bit special. I've steered clear of the vegiterian pies, meat is the way forward.

I had the pasty at County - the crust was Ok but the filling not that good. For a top pie or pasty, both elements must be spot on.
