On thinking about it I reckon we could do with a National Service Drone Academy.

Train the youth ( or anyone for that matter ) in combat drone flying skills and homemade drone production.

If we can create a conveyor belt of combat drone capable citizens then it will make a massive difference in the next war.

Given less that 4% of teenagers could do the military training then wonder how they will be selected.

They are literally making it up as they go along
Has Sunk accused Starmer (for mocking the 'plan') of supporting terrorism and illegal immigration, yet?

Bored teenager? Check.
Able to build and fly a combat drone? Check.

What could possibly go wrong?

Sunak’s proposal isn’t voluntary - it’s mandatory . That is why it is causing so much controversy.

The “choice” is between doing 12 months with the military in a non-combative role learning cyber security, logistics, procurement, or civil response operations. Or “volunteering” ie unpaid - work one weekend every 4 for 12 months.

(The majority would apparently not be accepted onto the military placements (which actually sound like a bauble) as they need to have particular aptitudes and only 30,000 places would be available.)

But yes, it hasn’t been thought out - most election manifesto promises aren’t, they are just designed to win votes (in this case from Reform and an older demographic) - nether the military, nor public responder services have been consulted not has it been costed.
Yes I know it isn’t voluntary- it’s mandatory.

I was referring to post 505

Next jolly wheeze from the Tories could be getting rid of decimalization and going back to pounds, shillings and pence

That was actually the reason an elderly relative gave me for voting for Brexit, they didn't like decimalisation. (Honestly, although no longer with us).

I suspect there's probably still a few votes they could drag back from Reform with that policy

What I want to know is whether this is Rishi's daily f*** up done for today, or should we keep checking the news because there may be a more ridiculous one :shootself

From what I understand the public are now getting to see the type of knee jerk, unplanned, totally ridiculous 'ideas' that have been daily occurrences within Whitehall ever since the Government decided it didn't need experts 4 and a half years ago ???

You couldn’t make it up

Oh hang on, they just did ..

Surely parents cannot be held liable for the actions of an 18-year old. Aren't we classed as adults responsible for our own behaviours by then? What next - parents responsible for 18-year old committing a crime rather than the 18 year old themselves.

Very offensive to 16 year olds joining the army, presumably you regard them as being morons who don’t know what they’re doing?
I suspect you are simply easily offended.

The current Government and previous Governments have taken legislative steps that have pushed back the age of responsibility for different things, including drinking and smoking from 16 year olds and those that join the Army cannot serve in frontline. This means Governments of all colours do not trust u18s in matters of importance.

If the next Government consider that 16 year olds are mature enough to enter the electoral franchise then it follows that they are mature enough to decide whether or not they want to drink, smoke, gamble, marry or watch a grown man shit into another man’s mouth (by way of example) on a porn site.

If they don’t get these other rights at the same time they get the vote, and they accept it without a peep, then not only are they are getting a perfect lesson in how British politics works, they are evidently de facto morons.
