Chris Cattlin made a great point about the amount of live football on TV, "I love fish and chips, but I couldn't eat them every day."
He also said that someone had upset the orange cart and thrown a monkey into the works.

No because watching porn on my laptop isn't illegal (as far as I know). Watching copyrighted content on whatever device (the most popular it would seem is a firestick preloaded with IPTV software and subscription) is. Therefore dodgy.

I get your point but you are be slightly pedantic.
 yeah the preloaded ones are what I meant. Freely available.

I'm really on the fence. From speaking to others, it does seem at least partly generational - everyone I know under 30 is very anti the blackout.

I think I'm a reluctant LEAVE. (Of course, I'm voting LEAVE without thinking for a second it would actually WIN, and all the CHAOS that would cause. Just a protest vote.)

As much as I'd love to be able to watch 3pm KO's live, it would only cement the already well known fact that football revolves around TV money, rather than the fans.
If the 3pm blackout was lifted, it'll all centre around TV companies adding even more time slots, with limited games scheduled for 3pm on a Saturday. They won't want multiple matches with the same KO. Already we've got Friday nights, Saturday midday, Saturday evenings, and now rumours of Sunday evenings. Be careful what you wish for.

As for FireSticks, there are 2 main reasons people use them:
1) To watch matches that are not scheduled to be on TV - problem solved by lifting the blackout.
2) To circumnavigate the exorbitant cost of having to have contracts with Sky, TNT and Amazon Prime to have access to televised matches - problem further enflamed by adding more TV offerings and likely bringing more providers to the market.

3pm blackout is designed to protect the minnows inst it? People go and watch Bolton or Tranmere on Saturday 3pm, then watch United or Liverpool at another time... if the big clubs were on telly at that time they wouldnt get off the sofa and through the turnstiles at reebok-whatever / prenton park...

The second paragraph contradicts the first IMO. You say "as much as I'd love to be able..." and then point out that anyone with a firestick is, in fact, able.

I actually voted to remove it BECAUSE of the risk of 6.30 Sunday games if we don't. This slot is only being added to accomodate the additional televised games that cannot be shown at 3pm Sat. If you allowed two or three of them on it would be easily done in the current set up. TNT have about five channels they could show them on and Sky could easily put different games on Sky Sports PL, Main Event and Arena like they do on the last day of the season.

At the end of my tether
Run a trial . Televise a few selected games where there are local lower league and non league fixtures.
It is my hunch that attendances will not be affected. If I were going to go and support a lower league team it would not bother me what was on the telly.

Does it stop people attending lower league games, though? Is someone who is a supporter of (e.g.) Eastbourne Borough going to not attend because they could be watching Man Utd vs Liverpool on the telly?

Personally. I think those that watch non-league do for a reason and will still continue to do so. They would have found a dodgy stream already if they weren’t Dedicated to it.

Remove it.

However, I do think @Lenny Rider makes an excellent point re non-league attendance.

I would still go to a number of away games because TV only gives you certain elements of a game, not the other movement. For people that aren’t in a position to attend, it would give them the chance to watch games….

Of course given the alleged access to games via other means, aren’t we already nearly at that point.

Sky could broadcast several games at 5pm, but they know you can only watch one game at a time. the broadcasters are selling all you can eat football weekender. 3pm just opens one more slot.

So does 6.30 Sunday - so far better 3pm Saturday IMO.

Good point, and would some fans choose not to go to a non league game on a cold, wet November Saturday afternoon?

I'm old enough to remember the fist ever televised league game in 1983, Spurs vs Forest, I doubt 40 years later anyone could have forseen the saturation coverage we have of live games now.

Chris Cattlin made a great point about the amount of live football on TV, "I love fish and chips, but I couldn't eat them every day."
Surely just cos fish and chips is available every day, doesn't mean you have to eat it every day, likewise there's other channels available

The thing is every Prem game can be found on line at 3pm with a few simple searches so essentially it is already available to anyone who has a PC. If I can locate the games at 3pm (in my 60's and a bit crap with tech), then anybody can.

It's slowly heading for the global market anyway and I can see the day when they will have games at all times to fit in with things such as the Asian or American markets. In a few years we could be playing at 2am! - Don't fancy trying to get to a game at that time!

My angle was more on - it's not the Firestick that's dodgy, but [maybe] an application installed on it [even though a subscription fee to use is paid].

The laptop comparison would have been better expressed with dodgy [unlicensed] software [applications] installed on it where a fee has not been paid.

Not sure which is the greater crime but I'd be confident the latter has the greater number of global perpetrators.

Apologies for being a tad pedantic ....

I think perhaps they're more worried about whether a Brighton fan who watches Whitehawk when Brighton are away, would stop watching Whitehawk and watch Brighton on the telly instead.

I suspect (might be wrong, of course) that Whitehawk and other local clubs get bigger gates when Brighton are playing away.

I've just raised this on another thread but it would be good to see if my views are out of touch.

Should the 3pm Saturday blackout of televising football stay in place? Pros - arguably gets people to non league, EFL and stops 'pay per view'. Cons - out of date. Anyone with access to the internet can now watch these games and yet non league is more popular than ever. Will also allow the number of TV games to increase without messing with kickoff days and times.

Vote away!
The 3pm blackout should definitely remain imo

There will always be an element who will watch their team via a dodgy stream, but they aren't the ones likely going to non or lower league 3pm games on a Saturday, however if it were make easy to watch (ie through your existing sports package with someone like Sky, and also available to watch in a pub) How many more people beyond the streamers will suddenly watch that instead of heading to see their local team play? - How many Brighton fans would still go to those other teams games if they could easily watch our game on TV instead, when before it wasn't an option?

How many people (faiweather fans, or casual attendees) may decide to stay at home and watch the 'big' match being shown at 3pm on a Saturday (well TV are unlikely to pick something like Burnely vs Luton are they, but instead a more glamorous games to broadcast in that slot) soand how many would still go to watch their local side instead regardless? - and it's those extra supporters that decide to watch the 3pm agmes that the local / smaller sides would miss out on.

Now we are in the PL, there is less reliance on gate money to help keep the club going thanks to broadcasting deals, sponsorship, etc... so losing the 3pm blackout will be less detrimental to a club like ours. Add in most our games are sell outs, and are all ticket affairs, brought in advance.

If we were still in League 2, fighting relegation and trying desperately to stay in business, would those who are keen to see these extra games shown at 3pm still feel the same way when it could have spelled the end of our club? Or woud it be seen as another example of greed, and lining their own pockets at the expense of clubs further down the pyramid? (a bit like the ill-fated super league idea)

How many of those who did attend games when we were in that position, (say last few seasons at the Goldstone, or when we were at Withdean), would have given it a miss if there was a 'decent' match being broadcast at the same time, something they could have watched from the comfort of home or in a pub with a pint in hand instead?

We've had some in the past that didn't make it to our games even though they had already got advance tickets, and that number increased when our games were on tv because they simply decided that didn't want to make the journey / face bad weather / or simply couldn't be bothered to leave the house (but for broadcast games they knew they could still see the match on tv, which made it even easier to miss it live) - so again how many, especially those without advance tickets for lower league / non league clubs games would decide not to go if the blackout was removed?

Even a smallish drop in gate receipts (say 100 less attending) will have a far more significant impact on clubs that rely heavily on gate reciepts for a lot of their income and to cover operating costs (your lower league and non league teams) and they will be the ones who are therefore more likely to go out of business as a result, leaving a big hole in their community and all so (mainly) PL clubs can add a few more quid to their coffers
