My point was not specifically about Hamilton, but about knighthoods in particular. In Stanley Matthew's day it was as rare as hen's teeth. He was the first footballer to be knighted. In those days, the likes of Andy Murray and Alastair Cook would not gave been honoured in this way in a million years. Fred Perry wasn't.

Funnily, loads of people have been knighted for services to cricket, going back to the 19th Century, so maybe Alasdair Cook might have been.

I am not an F1 fan - nowhere near as interesting as it used to be in the days of Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart - but maybe Hamilton is more deserving of it than most. I still don't like the idea - nothing personal - of "expecting" it.

I guess you aren't a big cricket fan either then?

Cookie is the highest run scorer for England EVER. Despite always opening the batting and being captain for a large amount of his England career.

People can argue semantics but the stats say that he is our greatest batsman of all time. Also he was a great captain, is an all round decent bloke, has never had a whiff of scandal about him and has always conducted himself impeccably, even through some seriously pressurised times.

If he didn't deserve a knighthood then no British sportsman (or anyone else for that matter) should ever get one!

Fair enough! The all round decent bloke thing is exactly what Stanley Matthews was as well. He was never booked or sent off in more than three decades of professional football.........

Hmmm, The Daily Mail - that well known champion of equality and inclusivity.

Hey, willy, you can choose what paper you like, the facts don't change.

I would link them for all you, but I get the feeling you want to believe that Hamilton's team were right to do this, the guy is an arse.

Fancy thinking you own the Hamilton brand, what a dick.

Fred Perry wasnt because he was considered a money grabbing professional who was banned from Wimbledon. This was never rectified in retrospect, it should have been. Not honouring sportsmen was wrongly rare and now represents what they mean to us.

Yeah it’s not a classy move for sure. However I think the Mail enjoys digging out black sportsmen. See the articles on Rashford.

No, after his fiasco with Hamilton watches, he'd want all the other knighthood returned so he was the only one.

I would imagine this cock up with Hamilton watches is a massive blunder by Lewis Hamilton's marketing department. I very much suspect Lewis Hamilton knows very little about this fiasco, he has far more important issues to deal with, driving for a world class F1 team for starters.
