Nothing to do with the fact he earns more :dunce:

You wouldn't know what tax was. You sponge, Lewis pays.

He does earn more money than most of us and he does pay tax on his UK income.

*This part is for adults so you can stop reading if you like*

Should we, possibly, juxtapose Lewis Hamilton with today's news about Sir Philip Green.

"Sir" Philip is a criminal, simple. But he still has a knighthood. If you were one of the 10k+ people whose pension fund has been shafted by the billionaire thief then you might feel differently.

Oh no, Green is white so he's ok.....

This has already been put to bed. I guarantee that he pays more uk tax than you do. Try reading the thread?

I've missed this being "put to bed" is it because he donates a lot to charity?

No it's because he's one of the top 5000 taxpayers in the UK. He also gives a lot of money to charity, but that wasn't the question.

James Dyson is in the top 3 and I'd still argue is a tax dodger.

As Weststander has pointed out about twenty times. Nobody complained when Beefy, Button & co did the same thing.

Why is it just Lewis who you are angry about?

So many Mardy posters on this thread. Hamilton’s achievements are something to celebrate but gormlessness, racism, green eye and ignorance litter the thread. I have no problem with people who don’t like the principal of honours but so many comments on this thread go way beyond that

Can we at least all agree that Hamilton is the best at “driving around in circles”?

We can only deal with facts, not race motivated innuendo.

LH pays full UK taxes on his UK earnings. Mercedes Benz Grand Prix Limited are a UK based company, so not a hint of tax avoidance and they employ LH on reportedly £40m a year. He'd pay about 45% of that in tax and NI, so £18m.

Then because he's an overseas resident living in a tax haven, as are many British sporting and arts stars, they/he may well be paying no or a very low rate of tax on their non-UK worldwide income. I've not heard a politician yet, even your mates Corbyn/McDonnell, say that Brits residing overseas should be forced home or be compelled to pay UK taxes when they don't reside here. It wouldn't stand up in any court.

Skin colour
and/or
He had the temerity as a black man to have opinions on racism.
100%.

Big props btw for continuing to point out the facts on this issue btw.

As soon as you've said it once, another one pops up with the same incorrect argument and you have to repeat yourself again..... and again.

It's a very simple situation. People with a history of being racist aren't happy because a black man is one of our greatest sportsmen of all time.

Even worse, he's actually spoken out about racist police officers murdering black people. As if that isn't a bad thing. But of course, some people don't like that (you don't get any points for guessing why).

If you have a problem with either of these issues then you are a racist. It's not "being a snowflake" or any of the other pathetic terms that the alt-right use. It's called being logical and having a conscience about people being murdered, just because they are black.

We know that ppf is a racist thicko, that's low hanging fruit. But others are really showing their true colours on this thread.

Mouldy, I've always realised that you're mentally challenged but I did think that underneath the bluster you were actually a decent person. It seems not. Some truly appalling posts on this thread. You aren't clever enough to sweep your racist prejudices under the carpet.

Go have a word with yourself.

I'm not angry about it at all. I don't think the fact he pays a lot of tax and other tax dodgers have got honours ends any discussion. And I'm sure there was a thread here of people complaining when Botham got knighted.

Great post.

It's not rocket science but you can bet your last penny that someone will call him a tax dodger within the next page or two. And for those that read your post they'll just change tack and say he's only won because of the car. That will get squashed and they'll say he doesn't do anything for charity. That will get refuted and they'll move onto he's an arrogant tosser. And then back to the tax and the circle continues.

It seems inarguable that if knighthoods are given out for sporting achievements then he has to be in serious consideration. And yet...

Best dig that up then. Otherwise, you're wrong......

Because you've abandoned your normally right wing/laissez faire politics/economics, always very anti socialist which would encompass higher taxes, on one issue ... Lewis Hamilton.

Did you previously start threads or post against the tax arrangements of Faldo, Button, Coulthard or Poulter? My guess would be not once, perhaps you had no interest.

Which leave the odour of disdain towards a black bloke who had the courage to speak up about racism.

Oddly you and I always sem to agree on most things in threads. You seem to have formed a pretty narrow viewpoint where you either think he should get a knighthood or you're a racist.
I think he's an Incredible driver but have no real interest in F1 nowadays. I applaud his BLM stuff and his pretty belated human rights comments, but I don't particularly agree with him getting a knighthood purely due to sporting achievements especially with his tax arrangements. But I don't really care, I just don't buy the argument that because he pays a lot of tax that ends the argument. I would imagine most of the larger tax payers in the country have tax arrangements I would not agree with. Amazon pay millions more in tax than individual independent bookshops, I don't think that excuses criticism of them for that

So no thread about Beefy being knighted then?

As you were.

Absolutely skewered. He is a glutton for punishment though.
