I am not desperate for it. Just that given what previous awards were for he has clearly passed that mark. Unless you want to strip people of them and restart the award then he is clearly suitable for one.

I agree, he's 100% suitable IMO.

But some will genuinely disagree based on their dislike of his sport (I was there when one of the most respected sports journalists in the country called it "sponsored traffic") and some will not warm to a bloke who has a bit a bellendry in his history. It's not right to fight ingrained prejudice and intolerance with prejudices of your own.

Unfortunately he isn't the only one who has lost the plot on this one.

It appears they see the colour of the skin and not the debate of what has been said.

Knighthoods for me are for normal people, who have gone above and beyond away from the limelight and really changed society. Sportsman and women are way down the list IMO.

Forget the racism stuff - this question is far more fundamental than that. For me, no racing driver of any stripe - or colour - should be honoured as a 'sportsman'. For me, 'sport' requires that the 'sportsperson' is propelled solely by their own human muscle power. Sitting in a big fat car, turning a steering wheel and pressing pedals, all the while being propelled at 200 mph by an 800 horsepower turbocharged motor engine does not quite cut it. That kind of achievement is more appropriately marked by the awarding of a speeding ticket.

It's very clever, and Mr Hamilton is clearly quite good at it. But it's not sport. So, it's a no gong from me.

Sorry, I see this opinion of F1 quite a lot and it's horrendously ignorant.

You are aware that you need significant muscle power in your legs to even press the brake pedals properly, right? And extremely strong neck muscles to withstand the G-forces? F1 drivers are some of the fittest athletes in sport.

You also need tremendous skill and concentration, fighter pilot level awareness and reaction times, ability to multi-task, not to mention the risk of being killed if you cock it up. It is sport by every definition.

FFS. A F1 race driver is not just a driver - he's a technician. He's part of a team. Hamilton is in the best car because he's a vital part of BUILDING the best car. He doesn't just rock up on race day, hop in, and win races. He will have put in hours and hours of testing, to provide input, to make that car the best it can be. And STILL dry-hump his team mate in exactly the same car. Thats why he's the GOAT.

Whether he deserves a knighthood or not, I'm not overly interested in tbh. But anyone on here degenerating his achievements because of the team he drives for, is fundamentally, a dickhead.

But I'd knight Hamilton, GOAT in his sport, charity worker as above and someone who is prepared to stand up for equality when he's the only black guy in a sport full of rich, white brats).

I am very well placed to comment on world motor sport from a closer source that your tiny mind can't even imagine, but I expect you have been down to lancing and done a couple of laps of their mini circuit and have a far better insight than me.

All old ground but, money = success in general. Hamilton is quite good but the money that has backed him has made him appear invincible, and he is an arse.

Gazza: Paddy Lowe was one of the main men, but he isn't a showboat. So often the guys behind the scenes deserve the plaudits but are the way too modest to lay claim to them. He may respect Hamilton one level, but I am sure there is a bit of what a **** on a different level. He was never going to say anything else.
You will have to trust me when I say I know both sides of the coin, engineer and driver side and a good chunk of the credit should lay with the engineer. If there is a Knighthood they want to give away perhaps they should look Ross Brawns way ahead of Hamilton.

I have no need to say what connections I may have and don't intend to as I was not brought up to have a Hamilton like persona.

But I will tell you something...............shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsh don't tell anyone, but because you add nothing to a conversation, I will immediately upgrade you with the famous five by hitting the 'Harry' button.
