Isn't Dicker and a n other one away from a 5th booking ? Get it today, ideally and miss the cup replay. Means a rethink for Weds, if that goes ahead.
While we're at it, what chance of Notts County at home being on ??

And this gets to the heart of the problem. By just consulting the bbc 5 dayer on the net (not that i'm saying you did) you would have correctly seen the overnight minimum temp of -7c or something similar. The problem is that this temp is the min for the whole period from 6pm to 6am. If they had looked more closely, at publicly available forecast data (the same data i use) they would have see that by later in the evening the temps were due to rise quickly and rain would arrive to wipe away the snow and ice.

This is why i doubt they take any met advice on these matters.

Papa

If it's any help, this is the advice that was being received by Brighton & Hove City Council at 11.08am, yesterday. The Council passed this on to other organisations in the city who provide weather sensitive services. I received it because I run a transport operation. It's possible that the football club received it as well.

Subject: Met Office Severe Weather Warning - additional information from the PWS Advisor

Good morning,
Here's a weather update for the next few days for the southeast region.

Today, apart from the risk of a few snow showers in the east of Kent it should be dry albeit generally cloudy. There is some fog around too. It stays cold with temperatures unlikely to rise much (if anything) above freezing.

Tonight, it starts dry and frosty but through the night some rain, sleet or snow will spread from the west right across the region. Current indications are that this get to the west of Ox, Berks and Hants around midnight and then spread steadily east through the rest of the night, reaching Kent late in the night. There is likely to be some some sleet or snow for a time at first and over the higher ground but for most places at lower levels and along the coast it will turn to rain fairly quickly as it brings less cold air across the region. This precipitation is likely to be falling on to frozen surfaces or it will freeze quickly once the rain has cleared so ice is expected to be the principal hazard through the night and into Saturday morning.

Saturday will be cloudy with further outbreaks of mainly light rain or drizzle (perhaps some sleet/snow over high ground) . Daytime temperatures will be slightly higher than recent days allowing a slow thaw of some lying snow. There is a low risk that some heavier rain during Saturday evening/night may increase the rate of thaw for a time in southern most counties.
This possibility (giving a consequential low risk of localised flooding - mainly Sussex and Kent) will need to be monitored over the next 24-36 hours.

Again as the rain clears eastwards through the early hours of Sunday (perhaps with some sleet or snow temporarily before it does so), ice is likely to become widespread. The last of rain should clear from Kent during Sunday morning. Sunday generally should then be fair. Cold again though and ice again likely by evening and overnight.

For the first part of next week we are back in colder air so any day time thaw of lying snow will be very slow. It should be mostly dry. More "normal" winter conditions! There remains a low probability of more snow edging in from the south on Tuesday but this is becoming even less of a possibility than it seemed yesterday and is probably only any risk at all for southern coastal counties and the Isle of Wight.

Unless things look like departing seriously from the above, I won't send anything out over the weekend but please feel free to call me if you need any info. The EMARC duty forecaster can also be contacted and is available 24/7.

Regards,
Graeme

I dont think a thaw was predicted at most of the areas those grounds are in. It was though for us. If they had inspected at 7 oclock this morning the game would have gone ahead. But I suppose they didn`t want to risk anything amd thats fair enough.

And how precious of you to care about people travelling from Colchester! Just like Swindon cared about us last season when we had six inches of snow and they had none.

You are one incredibly selfish individual!! Its not just away fans, but also us Albion fans who live outside Sussex.

Just spent 15 minutes trying to help the guy opposite get his car off his drive. we gave up!

Its all very well for you sitting there in BN1, with presumably a walk to the ground.

Eastbourne Borough's pitch is also playable after 10 inches of snow on it yesterday but because we were playing Gateshead we had to give them a decision yesterday morning.

Theres still a little ice about in BN7, mainly in sheltered areas and also areas where snow was compacted (by foot, cars and sledges)

I would have thought that at Withdean the stands, especially at the back of the south there is a possibility that they could still have a bit of ice there and also Snakey Lane could be icey aswell.

Has anyone who is being critical of the decision to call the game off seen if they are clear and safe? or are they basing their view on what they can see where they are?

Also there was less snow around the coast than further inland, the officials had to take into account fans travelling from further afield.

Ok so next time there is localised flooding in the deepest depth of Cornwall we should abandon games at withdean in case a BHA fan lives there. Cant believe the amount of shite you are posting on here today. The club have to worry about the pitch, stadium, and very local roads. That is it. Whats going on in Colchester, London, Cornwall or friggin outer Mongolia has no relevence to our game.

So if this was an away fixture in Colchester and their ground was clear from snow would you be happy if they played it even if Brighton was still snowbound and fans who had brought tickets were unable to get there?

Or even with the game at Withdean, what if you had tickets and the game was given the go ahead but you couldn't get there from Maresfield, Uckfield or wherever - wouldn't you be annoyed and think it was the wrong decision and that the club should have thought bnout fans from there getting to the ground?

Enjoy a football free day?!? As a football fan most of us surely look forward to Saturday afternoon.

The biggest cook up here was clearly having the pitch inspection so early. I was a bit surprised by the quotes on the official site saying it was due to freeze last night. Mayby the game has really been called off for football reasons on Gus's say so?

Some off you could have gone up to Elland Road (home section).

But maybe you wouldn't have been exactly welcome...:lolol:

Yes i would. I was also one of the unfortunate fans who got all the way to Halifax for it to be called off half hour from kick off. I also got all the way to Blackpool in the middle of the petrol crisis. Colchester to Brighton and vica versa shouldnt be a problem. If they cant find a way to escape there town (which i very much doubt is the case) then TOUGH! In my experiance, if you wanna get somewhere desperately enough, you will. I swear the world has gone f'ucking soft.
