Should cars be banned for 45 minutes each morning?

Make it so. I've never once cycled down Stanford Avenue at an obscene speed without fear of some car coming out of a side street and splatting me.

I start work at 8am every day. Could you give me some suggestions as to how I should get to work?

this is a good suggestion, though I liked the idea in France whereby lorries over a certain size were banned from certain roads and motorways during weekends....... resultng in fewer jams, and fewer accidents during those periods...... leaving a free run for 'civilians' trying to enjoy themselves in their free time.

Start early

So if I add 15mins on to every day between now and when I retire in about 30 years, how much of my life do you think i'll have wasted/worked for free?

I also have a 84 mile round trip commute with 2 dogs. The majority of it country lanes and some of it motorway (A1M), so I think that rules out a bicycle.

I like that idea. Lorry's are only second to motorbikes as the scum of the road and the biggest problem with the british road network.

so you arrive within 15 minutes of starting your shift, could move nearer,so does a ban on traffic in the city of brighton and hove really affect you,or are you another non resident interfering in our great city?:moo:

What happens if you started your journey at 6 and get stuck in traffic 10 miles from you destination at 7.45?
What happens? Just pull over and read the paper?
Crazy

I suppose you could take the dogs for a 15 minute walk.
But as you don't actually live in Brighton you don't have a problem.

Such drastic measures would be the only way to make people realise just how pointless most of their car journeys are.
But it being drastic means it will never happen.

What about blue badge holders?
What about the effect of tax revenue, from the pumps?

The ban would be within the city so you should be able to get closer that 10 miles from your work station, and yes wait outside the city boundary and adjust your departure on future journeys.
