In 1938 over 10,000 people paid to cross the footbridge on August Bank Holiday Monday.

My grandad said that there must have been over 12,000, but someone fiddled the turnstiles.

Haven't really been to Shoreham much since my mum moved to Mileoak a few years back. Do remember seeing some posts on here a while back by someone who was the manager of the convenience store by the station - it may not be as idyllic as you're expecting.

For those wanting to see a rare event the Adur Footbridge will be opened tomorrow (19.02) at 12:15 hrs to let through I assume a couple of house boats.

This rarely happens these days so get down and look if you want.

Aaah - that's the bridge I used to fish for crabs when I was a young'un. Conveniently located next to the road where the crabs would run the gauntlett soon after capture.

Those people are "shrimping" - you push the big net horizontal to incoming waves and catch shrimps, boil them and eat them - yummy as well.

Me and my Dad used to do that at Bexhill.
