had to wear a tie (a shoe lace would do!) to get into Sherrys on a Sunday night, 30p? entry in Middle Street for blokes - women free (ie women didn't pay, not your entrance fee included a woman!).

Pool cues and balls supplied for fights.

Loved Sherrys 74-76 & sometimes it was like a Western saloon when the fights kicked off.

Met my Mrs there on NYE 76 and that's when life started to go wrong!

Ah well, still remember those fine days of Bo'son, Vangaurd, Sherrys a late swim then doing a runner from the West Street Winpey.

Sherry's was ROUGH. I remeber when they employed a load of Oriental Types inside as bouncers once. Signs everywhere saying, "The bouncers are trained in Martial Arts, you have been warned".
It might as well have said, "We challenge you to some kung fu fighting".....which happened a lot! :lolol:

I was a member of Buzby's & loved the place. 80's soul in the house!

Seem to recall playing for CDP vs Busbys in Lewes League division 12 in the early eighties. Their bouncers played in defence and came onto the pitch clutching pints of lager. They gave us free guest list tickets, we kicked their speedy winger DJ about ten foot in the air.

Seem also to recall that the lights went up at all Brighton venues at 11pm, you got served with a finger buffet, ham sarnies & coleslaw and the like and then the lights went down again and it was business as usual. Local bye-law of the time or something.

That's right .
But it wasn't anything as classy as ham .
It was Spam & chips .
If you didn't collect it , you didn't get a stamped ticket .
No ticket , no drinks after 11.pm.
Fortunately , you didn't actually have to eat it .

Busbys was ok, Sherry's was a whorehouse.

'Jenkinsons' cabaret bar (If you could get in, as over 21;s) was however full of milfs, if you wanted a little more experience.

I worked behind the bar in Jenkinson's for a while, definitely qualifies as the worst job I've ever had :)

That was RORY.

It started the trend of showing video's during the evening....do you remember he used to have a video of him twatting about at the top rank next door!!

The bar maids used to dance on the bar, but they were either up themselves or munters!!!

I remember sherry's having a large dance floor. Where all the girls would dance round their handbags while the geezers looked on. I think pernod and black was the popular drink of the time A really depressing place. Thank god punk came along.
