Was at game yesterday, so not read through this thread if its already been mentioned? But having just watched extended highlights on Albion player, what is Webster doing on their 2-2 equalising goal?

Just as Sheffield United player goes to cross it, Webster tries to forcefully shove the scorer into an offiside position, obviously fails...... but is he trying to compensate for his own poor positioning, and with VAR in the stadium, even if he'd succeeded, then shirley he's just given a way a pen if reviewed?

I keep saying it this season but that was one of the best away days ever. (I have seen us win 4-1, 3-2 and 5-2 and beat Ajax this season though so maybe not a surprise I keep saying it).

Seven goals, five for us including an absolute beauty and we didn’t play THAT well.

Off the field done tremendous high jinks that included feeding Jeff Stelling’s son tonic wine, drinking with a fancy dress pub crawl (theme; dead celebrities*), cracking atmosphere (apart from the weird Wednesday chants), some nawty Yorkshiremen picking on the wrong person and a great chat with a Sheffield United old boy on the train home who said “you were lucky………..lucky you drew us…).

Ha. No we were dressed “normally”. They were either a stag party or students that we bumped into just outside the Globe. Bar queue went from three people to three deep

Apologies, got the wrong end of the stick there. Saw the group from a distance when i arrived at the station. They were certainly raucous and colourful it must be said.

You're right that is absolutely pathetic and a complete fail which ever way you look at it!!!

Did they have a Maradona and a Cruyff amongst them?

if so, we encountered them in the town centre. Just as we were walking through the square with the Ceasefire Now demo, they were making their way up the hill. They spotted the demo and launched straight into a couple of football-style songs - in support of Palestine to be fair - but a copper was on them in seconds to suggest it wasn’t really the time for bantz.

That was the stand, the lower tier, that I watched the Albion play Sheffield Utd in the FA Cup third round in January 1987. It was f-f-f-freezing that day. We draw 0-0 and lost the replay. I’ve never been so cold at a game before or since.

Webster is not technically a bad defender but he switches off, which I guess essentially does make him a bad defender at this level.
He lost his man completely, was caught wrong side and goes into Sunday morning mode. Not good enough. If we can see it then you can bet so can RDZ. I think this is likely Webbo’s last season with us. He’s ‘bottom 10’ EPL standard and we’ve moved on.

I went that day as if the cold wasn’t enough we had to endure Richard Tiltman’s debut for the Albion.

Yes - the last cricket match there was in 1973. And more’s the pity.

I saw my first ever game at Bramall Lane in 1966 when it was also a cricket ground and a strange three sided football ground. They lost 1-0 at home to Newcastle. I was taken by my uncle, who lived in Rotherham, who was the only person in my family with any interest in football.. He gave me the choice of Rotherham v Millwall or Sheff Utd v Newcastle on the same night. A month later, I found my true love at the Goldstone...

Taking this thread O/T, but my interest was/is piqued. Apparently Bramall Lane was three-sided until 1975! I didn't realise it was that late. And like Northampton the last cricket match was in 1973.

They used removable 'duckboards' to stand on. Northampton I remember also had removable terracing 2 or 3 steps high behind that.
The ground disturbance from these must have affected the fast bowlers run-up, as the cricket square was only just behind this touchline.

On the night I went it was completely empty (which meant there was almost zero atmosphere). I'm no expert, but I don't think they ever used the fourth side because it was miles from the pitch.
