It was never intended to appear racialist just a reflection of what I consider to be English and eligible to represent my country. In the flats in my block are Romanian, Latvian and a Bulgarian family who all have children and if they had a child who grew up to be a good sportsmen they could play for their mothers country as above or England where they were born 2 options. I was born and bred in England of English parents so have 1 option is that right and fair.

It's not really a question of fairness as there is no other country you would desire to represent. Any other consideration comes down to my point about mercenaries (although it may not apply in the cases you consider).

Look at it like this. You and I like cricket. We are Sussex supporters. As far as I know you, like myself, were raised here. I was born in Surrey and came to Sussex at 6 months old.

Let's say that, like Yorkshire once had on there statute books, only Sussex born folk could represent their county. As a youngster I was a very good cricketer.and loved Sussex CCC. Let's say that my talent was developed and I was good enough for county level. Now let's suppose that Sussex had the Yorkshire model. Can you imagine how heartbroken I would have been if I couldn't be selected ? I have no affiliation with Surrey. That brings it down to a more local level. If any of your children were in the same position, having been born across the border, I bet you would have been livid. Local or national, it's just the same.

Your identity is where your heart is- and if someone's heart is with the English flag then I'm happy to see them wear it on their chest.

That cant be right surely.

So you're saying...despite all the reasoning Brighton Lines has given you, you cannot accept the fact someone who's heritage lies elsewhere but has been raised in England has a choice on who they feel they should represent should they get to compete at the highest level? Even ruling yourself out as not right and fair' if you had the choice to compete for whichever nation you felt the closest connection to. Blimey.

I can see your argument but disagree so I think it is best to leave it now as some will get offended, not you I am sure.

Perhaps I do find it a little offensive. But I'm more sad that your views are so fixed. I'm happy to leave it there happy in the knowledge that other people's 'thumbs up' on my post show that I am not holding a minority view.

It's a shame but that is just how some people are. Cannot understand why, but often their horrid views cannot be changed.

Can't someone find a reason to persuade BG to stop his incessant posting to save him from himself.

It's a shame he can't have a post limit per thread as it descends decent threads into nonsense half the time .

Back to Duffy be good . As suggested , start another thread with whatever you are talking about and keep this to Duffy

This escalated from people saying he was an established international with a good team which I disputed. Sorry but on that score I would sooner we signed a loan from a Premier club even if he was young.

Sorry BG, but I want to call you out on this one. It, perhaps unwittingly, would be quite upsetting for many folk who just happened not to enter this world within these borders.

Your post is a reflection of your own, probably inherited, discomfort as to what constitutes as English and what doesn't.

Only mercenaries cause me any discomfort when they represent the national team at sports I care for. This is simply because they care less for the 'flag' and more for their own careers. But to suggest that a person who came to these shores at a young age, and has grown up within our culture, should somehow be barred from receiving the highest sporting honour of representation is as ignorant as it is hideous.

What you haven't considered is the latent, probably unintended, racism in your suggestion. For what such a strategy does is single out people on the basis of an inconsequential act that they had no control over. It also potentially excludes them from representing the very culture and peoples that they most identify with. Under your system, if I was born in England, but raised in France and never since set foot on these shores, I could become a UK national in sporting terms. Yet someone in the opposite situation couldn't.

Note that I do not make assertions about your character when I post this, or imply that any racist undertones are intended. But I would ask you to put yourself in the shoes of someone who would be affected by such ideology. I'm sure you'll think again.

Your post is excellent and I support it 100% as no one is more anti racist than myself but I do not think for one minute that BG is or intended to be racist in any way. Sometimes people don't see racist things so clearly and I think it can happen without some of us recognising it. BG is of an age probably similar to my father and I often have to correct him in some terminologies he uses and I know for sure my father is not in the slightest bit racist

I can tell from the tone of BGs posts on here that he is in no shape or form racist but once again I do agree that it was correct for you to point such things out

Thanks for that we will sign Rico Henry based on your appraisal of him and then keep Sam and Gaetong until the end of the season then think again. Just ask West Ham for Burke on loan and n.no 10 from Vydra, Rhodes or Nugent either on loan or permanent with a view to having 1 season out of them then think again when we know which division we will be in next season

**** Off BG ..........you are in charge of left back recruitment........not the whole team recruitment................Don't overstep your remit and authority :)

I do get carried away because I so want to see us in the Premier and at 73 time is beginning to run out. As you rightly say I am not racist and dont care which country we get our players from so long as they are better than what we have.

Blackburn accept bid for Shane Duffy from Brighton. Fee around £4.5m

I'm seriously worried that if we are prepared to spend that much on a centre half we may be about to lose Lewis Dunk.

Just can't understand that investment in a player that is likely to be third choice at best.

And we're back to where we are now if we sell Dunk. Last season shows you need 4 quality CBs over the course of the season. We now will do. Just need a striker and it'll be the best squad we have ever had at this club.

I share your fears. Surely we wouldn't smash our transfer record for a sub.

If we do go into September with Dunk, Goldson, Uwe and Duffy we'll be looking very strong at the back.
