He's not going to spend £4.5 as a back up to Dunk and Godson, who have turned into a dream pairing. Unfortunately he hasn't spent £4.5 as a back up to Dunk and Godson. I am sure there will be another CB arriving, as well as a CM for the departing Stephens, and hopefully a new striker or two.

- Well we probably won't ever know the fee but its unlikely to be £4.5m
- Why are players leaving ? Bloom has turned down every offer, Hughton wants to keep the squad together and wants to strengthen with a CB and a striker.
(we were prepared to pay £6m+ for Pritchard)
- This logic would mean that when we bought Knockeart and Skalak we would have either sold a) one or two of March or Lua Lua or Murphy or b) looking for wingers who weren't as good as March/Lua Lua or Murphy..

Do you two not think that breaking our transfer record to add competition to our defence would be a departure from our usual transfer spending?

given the club have effectively confirmed that they were prepared to spend
a) 6m+ on a new striker (Pritchard)
b) have turned down £15m-£20m worth of offers for Dunk, Stephens and Knockeart this summer

then i'm positively expecting a departure from our "usual transfer spending" in the next 7 days.

This would be an incredibly wasteful signing. £4.5million? For an ordinary centre back to sit on the bench? Wow. Personally, I don't think there's any need. We have enough, unless we're telling the young players that they will not get the chance to show their quality in our team. You only have to look at Glen Rea deciding to leave to get games, Dallison has gone out on loan to play and Walton has had to do the same. Why invest in the young players if 100% of that investment is for the benefit of the clubs who get the players next?

Its not 100% of the benefit though is it ? Who owns their contract ?

It won't be 4 million

Besides 4 million isn't a lot. Villa paid 3.6 million for Elphick. Think Derby paid 5 million for Shackle(could be wrong)

Actually - if he can help organise our team to defend against set-pieces (which was a big reason we failed to get promoted last season) he could very well make our starting 11.

There's a big difference in spending big on a marquee signing and spending big on competition for places. Anyway, I hope you're right.

I'd hope that all players we've bought in this season can justify being first choice players given we have a 50+ game season . So far Norwood, Murray and Sidwell look like they are. Nobody should be guaranteed a place. Players lose form , get injuries, are suspended. It would be amazing if Kayal does another 46 game season to pick just one.

4 million is a lot for a player who might not play too often. Villa have made Elphick captain and Shackell started every game for Derby last year.

We have accepted, or as good as accepted a fee for Dunk. Sometimes you just cannot stand in a players way.
Don't get your point about the wingers. We had two for last season and signed two more. We now have 5, but Solly March's agent is always trying to move him on, so expect him or Lua Lua to be off, maybe not now, but by January at the latest

Did you see Derby's bench on the opening day?

Besides, people have been whinging and going on since the window opened for us to splash some cash, here we are making a statement of intent and people still talking bollocks, give it a rest.

Dunk and Duffy should be first choice CB. Uwe is still some way off and let's not get as carried away with Goldson in his first season as we did with Ince especially as he was only expected to push for the first team this year and I'm sure that if Greer and Uwe had been fit most of last year then the two centre back berths would have been between those two and Dunk.

Duffy could be an outstanding signing and would give us strength in depth to rotate when needed and replace players who will inevitably be suspended or injured.

Exciting times!

The same gimps who think because we signed Norwood, Stephens is off.If we sign Duffy that must mean Dunk is off etc etc.

Don't these people read and take in what Hughton and Bloom says? We are trying to strengthen the squad not weaken it.

It's nearly 26th Aug and Bloom has rebuffed offers for Knocky,Stephens,Dunk? He knows how important it is to keep this squad together.

You can repeat as much as you like. Doesn't make it anymore true. £25 to REMF says that if we sign Duffy we won't sell Dunk.

- we haven't accepted a bid for Dunk
- The last interview with Solly himself on Monday night said he was looking publicly to sign a new contract and was very happy with the club and "keen to agree a new deal" so i don't expect him to "be off"
http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14698152.In_demand_Seagulls_winger_keen_to_agree_new_deal/
- the winger point was that you can't believe the club would be buying a player who was a) expensive and b) might not be guaranteed a first team place.
I'm arguing that Hughton has stated he wants a 24/25 strong squad , stronger than last year and thats why we need another international , young CB. As was the case with buying Skalak and Knockeart (no guarantee he was going to be turn as amazing as he has turned out). when we had Lua Lua , Murphy (and an injured March).

You're spouting nonsense. Repeating it doesn't make it true.
