Shhh Gritt23 you'll get banned or have recepies posted on your thread. Don't you know that selling Currie represents doom, gloom and disaster? Not only are we bound to get relegated but we'll never get Falmer. You should know that despite what you've heard we're really a rich club who should have turned down a paltry 250k for a 30 year old free signing who was free to leave in the summer.

He was only on a 1 year deal, so we were 6 months from him leaving for NOTHING!

The money, combined with the windfall from the Cup-tie may mean we can spare a few quid for a loan signing or two. Previously, we simply could not.

Lack of cash could cripple this club, receiving this sort of cash makes things easier for a bit.

What a massive incentive it is for the others to perform !!! Look guys, don't get depressed about the situation here, pull yer finger out, play well at this level and you could be knocking on the door of the Prem.

I know it's not nice to think of players working their socks off for the Albion to better themselves with a move elsewhere, but WAKE UP that's the real World. Anything that offers them the incentive to give an extra 5% helps our cause. C'mon Leon, if the effort you've shown the last few games had been all season, that may have been you !!!!

Maybe I'm alone, but the good points outweigh the loss of an excellent deliverer of a ball, which currie undoubtedly is. Too often we didn't have the striking power to make the most of his crosses anyway.

Fully agree Gritt.

It's strange I really didn't expect this transfer to split opinion like it has.

Thats football I spose'

Is this a joke. He didn't play at the West Ham game I went to ... did he? Maybe I was more pissed than I thought.

Good bit of business in my opinion and a good move for Currie. No one expected much of Currie and he turned out to be half descent. I wish him well, and Ipswich.

Some people on here have expressed an opinion that he was the only player capable of keeping us up. I don't believe that and we have had this argument many time before about certain individuals. The more deals that the club do like this the better.

Me neither. He was one of those players that when I heard the news I just thought "oh, okay then"

Not really bothered that much about him going to be honest. Maybe now Jarrett or OGH can get a run in the team.

Sorry, I keep forgetting that NSC doesn't do irony. Like yourself I'm amazed that this has created such a division, and I'm not sure what the majority view is. Although he' was quite a good player I was pleased when I heard the news as WE NEED THE MONEY! I though I'd find NSC full of threads saying what an unexpected windfall this was. However we're never so happy as when we can see the cloud in front of every silver lining, it gives the usual suspects a chance to come out of the woodwork - I'm just surprised they've found so many allies.

Other than Zamora we tend to just release players, who was the last one we got a fee for? Gareth Barry?

Exactly, when I saw the Argus board outside the paper shop this morning 'ALBION SELL STAR PLAYER' I was not expecting it to be Currie and certainly not £250k. I was looking forward to getting on NSC and laughing at how we had mugged Ipswich, how they must have more money than sense and what a great piece of business it represents.Strange how it pans out ...

btw irony is wasted on me:blush:

I wouldn't exactly say losing Currie is "GREAT news" but I think £250k is good business for the club. Add this to the tidy sum we'll get from the Spurs game and hopefully McGhee will be given some funds for a couple of loan players.
It's obvious that we haven't got a pot to pee in at the moment and the majority of this cash will go towards just keeping us afloat – but this is how clubs like us survive. It's not nice, but that's the reality of our situation at present.
In years to come – until we're in a financial position when we're not a selling club – the same will happen to Leon, Nicolas, Harding and Hinshelwood. We will make money on all of these players and bring in/develop replacements who will eventually do the same.
Good luck to Darren. He'll always get a sly round of applause from me when our paths cross again.

Good luck to Currie. His short contract sorted both club and player at the time. He has served us far better than realistically expected and we have served him as a springboard upwards. His performances warranted a chance like this and at 30, its a chance that never looked like coming his way. Fair play to him.

Not ideal for us in the footballing sense but a good bit of business financially. £250K is not much to them, but a lot to us given our circumstances. Yes we could have held him to his last 6 months, watched his performances fade (not wanting to risk injury, etc) and probably incurred the wrath of some fans for not cashing in at a time when the A&K bowl was out.

We'll work around his departure, it's part of the game when you're one of the paupers (by comparison).

But what is the point of having a good striker if there is nobody to provide him with any service?

What's the point of turning down £250k to keep a good crosser of the ball, when we have no striker to score?

It's great business for sure, and you have to applaud the club for that. Desperate times, desperate measures. But It's also very depressing news for the remaining 6000 faithful who keep trudging along to the moribund shit-hole that is Withdean. At least with Vindaloo in the side, we were treated to a wee bit of MAGIC for our twenty notes. Which in the end is what makes it the beautiful game, even if most of the time it's more like a pull-a-pig contest. A part of our season died with this news. Ah well... see y'all next time

Didn't think he looked much to start with.
Having seen him more we'll miss those pin point passes and corners.
Now who do we use ??

Anyone got a fence i can sit on?

I'm leaning toward it being bad business, not good timing and 250k will get lost in the mire.
