It's not easy trying to chase down clubs owned by oligarchs and Middle Eastern states. Part of me feels sorry for both Everton and Spurs fans this week because not so long ago they got elite managers in Mourinho and Ancelotti yet here they are outside the top 6, both way off the the pace, scrabbling around for managers and trying vainly to keep their big stars happy.

The bottom line is Spurs under Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy will never splash the sort of cash that is required to compete at the top level. The Harry Kane saga and now Conte is final confirmation that with their board they will never win anything.

They also seemingly have no strategy. Going from high-pressing, attacking manager Pochettino to the defensive and passive Mourinho but with the same squad... what was the thought process there? Everton are similar... only they've spent literally €500m in four years, so they are kind of even more pathetic.

It seems some big name managers might be turning down jobs or walking out of big clubs because the club won't finance their transfer kitty demands. What happened to managing, coaching and developing the players already there and finding young, hungry uncut diamonds. Sort of thing a Graham Potter might do.....

Both Spurs and Arsenal are destined to be way off the pace for years to come, scrabbling around for a 5th or 6th place finishes, while Chelsea, Liverpool and the Manc clubs will contest the title. Everton are about as PL ‘top table’ relevant as we are.

As for feeling sorry for Spurs and Everton fans! Can’t relate to that on any level.

Seems the word from Sky Italy is that Conte is inclined to turn down the spurs job.

Lots of Spurs fans on twitter seem angry at Levy again. this one made me laugh:

EDIT:
And now...

Not from what I've heard, it's Tottenham who have turned their interest elsewhere according to reports.

Yep Lewis only having £4bn in the bank guarantees he qualifies for all government hand-outs, while living in the Bahamas.

I can't help thinking Spurs greed and vanity is what's got them into this mess, so f**k'em.

If I was an elite manager there's absolutely no way I'd follow on from The Hose on less money.
If I were Spurs I'd never again want to be on the hook to a manager for so much money.

Writing that final cheque, while sat in the middle of the chard remains of Tottingham, would have had Levy sweating bullets.

:lolol:

Dunno about anyone else but my Saturday has got off to a flyer!

And again Mr Potter jumps back up the pecking order listening to the pundits/spurs fans. Our Potter ticks all the right boxes it seems other than having more experience.

GP will obviously jump at the opportunity of being Spurs 4th/5th/6th choice, it’s not like he already has a good job.

I think the more Spurs **** around and fail to land their targets, the likelihood of Graham going there actually diminishes - he’ll see what a mess they’re in and steer well clear I reckon.

I heard Conte was offered something like £20m a year. Dont think they would offer that much to Potter but would certainly be hard to say no to that.

Assuming he has faith in himself and in the club backing him here, and as long as he can make us comfortable mid table over the next season or two, alot of ‘ifs’ I know, he will become a target for big clubs not in the disarray that Spurs seem to be in. If it’s all about money and he’s offered the Spurs job he’ll be gone shortly

Remember that not six months ago he was unemployable at this level and would only get a struggling Championship or lower foreign league job, according to many on here. Has he really improved that much? :lolol:

It surely isnt all about the money. But £20m... that enough to keep himself, his family, his kids, his future grandkids economically independent. Very difficult to say no to I reckon.
But he is staying.

It seems like once the candidate meets the Evil Dr Levy they quickly change their minds and realise just how lucky they were not saying yes Dan over the phone .

Nuno perhaps in the driving seat. Allegedly interviewed 3 times at Palace but now on Everton’s shortlist. I wonder if Spurs will look at him now too.

Conte well known to want a big budget to work with - that being one of the reasons he left Inter apparently. If Spurs don’t have the funds, unless Kane does leave, then they have to lower their expectations. Does that mean GP is back in the frame?

Spurs will now be desperate to make a splash with a ‘name’

Enter Pirlo….. great legacy as a player but did nothing this season with Juve.

Got classic Tottenham written all over it

According to SSN, not keen on working with and bringing through younger players either.
