Sidebottom ruled out so Pattinson comes in off the back of a very good season (29 wicket @ 20). Flintoff bats at 7 in place of Collingwood, Ambrose up to 6.

Pattinson looks a prospect alright, but he's only played 11 first class matches. Its a big kick in the teeth for bottler Harmison and 8-ball over Mahmood. Shame they didn't have the confidence to chuck Simon Jones back in.

He does seem to be pretty inexperienced at county level but has played a bit in Australia grade cricket and in their Pura Cup. From what I've seen he can swing the ball and is pretty pacey.

Ambrose at 6 could be a worry, I think their bowlers will target him with some bouncers etc.

Didnt expect 2 changes, thought it would be a straight swap Sidebottom for Flintoff.

Collingwoods place in the Standford game could be in doubt now too, if he has been dropped for lack of form

Well at least they did not pick Tremlett.

It seems that Moores has the right hump with Harmison as he would have been the obvious one to bring back in.

Probably the correct decision not to bring Jones back yet, let him get a full season under his belt and then take him to India.

Shame as Harmy's form has been good. Moores might have felt a bit too risky as Freddie can't be asked to be part of a four bowler attack yet, and if Harmy had a loss of confidence again, we could have looked exposed. Saying that, it's a bit of a step up for Pattinson.

Has Jones been getting a lot of overs in? If so, I feel he would have been the better choice.

Looking forward to this test more as I feel there's more chance of a result, assuming weathers OK. What's the forecast for the 5 days?

Jones has bowled 116 overs this season, 20 wickets @ 13.27. To compare this RMJ has bowled 175 overs this season so he's a bit light. Probably the right decision to leave him out for now.

Pattinson has played more games for Notts than he has Victoria in the Sheffield Shield or whatever they call it but maybe its horses for courses. I assume he wobbles it around a bit. Good on them for giving someone a chance rather than going back to Hoggy or Harmison. Unfortunately I think this maybe the last time we ever see Hoggard in an England shirt which I think is a shame.

I agree that Jones should wait - I expect him to be on the winter tour though.

The thing is, with Anderson nursing an injuring and Flintoff's workload untested, they needed to go for someone with proven form and fitness, which ruled out Jones and Harmison to a certain extent.

If Pattinson loses his nerve however and gets hit out of the attack, we could be left very light indeed. Remember we don't even have Collingwood to hold up an end for a few overs.

But we do have Flintoff.
