Should play as a forward or should play as a winger ?

Discuss.

I feel that he would be a lot more effective given more space to run at the defenders than playing up front. He looked a bit lightweight against Burnley and we should accomodate him to play to his strengths.

Behind the front two or a winger.

I quite like him in a free role. He's the most skilful player at the club, so the more he see's of the ball the better as far as I'm concerned. He's not as involved on the wing, and perversely, I don't think crossing the ball is one of his great strengths anyway. I like to see him dropping off deep, collecting the ball and then running at defences - he was very effective against Leeds doing that. I'd like to see him and Kaz given a few games as a partnership to see if they can forge an understanding, but sadly, McGhee changes his front pairings every 20 minutes so we never really get a chance to see if a pairing will work or not.

winger, brilliant at beating the fullbacks for pace and getting a good cross in. brilliant at cutting inside, skipping past midfielders and getting a shot/through ball off.

if you got the palace @ home match then the first half hour will show you how effective our wingers were (or more?). maybe the froggies dont like the cold weather

If we're even considering playing probably our best player out of position, then we're in trouble. We desperately need to replace the two forwards that McGhee has got rid of.

I'd rather Carole played out wide to give some service to CKR and Hart. CKR to play the target man role?

Out of interest, did you also see the Sheff and Burnley games because he was ineffective I thought. It was a nice try by McGhee but I just can't see it consistently being effective.

I saw the Burnley game, and I'd agree he wasn't as good, as they basically just kept 10 men behind the ball for most of the night and simply denied him the kind of space he enjoyed against Leeds. You're right, its maybe not something thats going to work every time, but I wouldn't discard the idea completely just yet. Unfortunately we're scraping the barrel for options up front at the moment, but I'd rather see a Kaz/Carole combo tried than have that other useless lump back in the starting lineup.

That won't be happening anyhow. I think it's got to be CKR alongside any one from Jake, OGH, El Turi, Carole or McPhee.

I'd play OGH and leave Carole in his best position.

Much my own view. CKR and Hart up front, Carole & Frutus on the wings. Have Jakey and McPhee on the bench for the front two if needed.
