But are we breaking even, I thought we had no money?? Or is that just a ploy to keep us quiet?
Shh. We are trying to have a conversation about the correct way to request a coffee here. Sake.

Shouldn't that be fewer staff and fewer pairs of eyes...?I think you have hit the nail on the head. Less staff = less pairs of eyes and less time for journalists to look over their own work because of additional demands.
We have reached 23,000 because the club gave me that figure when I asked them about an hour ago.
There are precious few places you can just ask for a coffee nowadays. Even somewhere like the Chalet Cafe, in Preston Park, one must stipulate whether you want filter or freeze dried.
Hmmm. I was in Malta last year and they only sold freeze dried coffee in ALL the cafes I visited. It was awful. One of the highlights of a holiday for me is sitting down in the sunshine watching the world go by and enjoying a decent cup of coffee (Americano;Long Black - no milk or sugar - it spoils the flavour) and there they were, everywhere, selling muddy water in its place. Thankfully this year's vacation was New York where the proper order of things was restored and some excellent filter coffees were enjoyed. Does the cafe in Preston Park sell both as, assuredly, I shan't visit if filter coffee isn't available.
Might be fixtures, might be considered spam by some, but just thought I would post this as it might be of interest.

Really encouraging news.
Absolutely, MG!Shouldn't that be fewer staff and fewer pairs of eyes...?
I believe the Argus is now subbed in Southampton. It got rid of the subbing operation in Brighton.
A lot of newspaper websites are put together by interns, work experience kids and graduate trainees. And many of them neither know nor care about punctuation or grammar.

Surely it is "MAY I have a coffee?"
If you ask "CAN I have a coffee?" then the answer could be any of:
"I don't know, can you?"
"probably"
"maybe"
"I don't know you well enough to know whether you CAN have a coffee"
So correctly, assuming you want a coffee, the question should be, "MAY I have a coffee?"
I'd like to purchase a cup of coffee please.
