Google Pay for Android takes up around 45mb (about 10 photos worth) - or about 0.06% of the capacity of my clunky 4 year old phone. If you change phones, simply add the app and sign on with your new one (most phone ugrades now allow very simple transfer of literally everything on your old device to the new one) - don’t understand what you mean by ‘no consideration given to this’ as none is needed. The tickets attach to your email address, not your phone number.

All valid points. Just another example of a luddite getting angry about change for the better.

Had mixed experience trying to download my ST to my android phone and my wife's to hers. Mine went through OK after a couple of small hiccups but my wife's had a large problem. NFC was the sticking point and we thought that the problem was with her phone. Turned out that the rather old card she was trying to download did not support it. Different card made all well.
I had to phone my bank to get card authorisation. The guy I spoke to was a Villa fan. He said that he liked the Albion and was particularly impressed with Dunk. He wished us well for the season and I wished Villa well with theirs.
We were less than impressed when we sent an email to the Albion about one particular point on the download instructions and were told that it could take up to five days to respond. Must do better.

It was all very easy in the end, once we had worked out that I now have two google pay accounts after Mrs T (yes, yes, I'm blaming her) created me a new account but my phone was set up to use the original.

How did you sort this. I never found Google Pay on my phone wherever I looked. So went to install but message said already installed. Couldn't find.

I then downloaded again but when I tried to save ST to G Pay a message came up saying "this item can only be saved by one person." Well, I am the one person.

I can only assume the Save went to G Pay I couldn't see.

Albion ticket office and G Pay have tried to sort for me today but couldn't find an answer for me to now save the ST !!!!!

The system for reading the old season ticket cards and the new system for reading it from the phone use the same technology. Near field communication (NFC), it's used world wide for access control into work places etc. The issues caused by the systems going down on a match day would be the same no matter which system the club wanted you to use. Additionally, and any so called IT expert would know this, a Premier League club is going to have back up systems and fail overs so the impact of an IT outage would be minimal. Even the entry level access control systems normally have fail safes that allow them to continue working securely if the back end systems go down. if the club doesn't have this is place Paul can give me a ring anytime he wants for some advice.

Could I just point out that NFC is not a requirement for entry. If you have a phone without it you can scan the barcode on the ticket.

Mate, it sounds like you have the problem I had. I can ask advice from Mrs T when she gets in later....

Depends what phone you have, to some extent, but try -

Settings > Apps > See all apps, then scroll down to Google Pay?

OK folks.
I have Google Pay.
I have it saved on my phone front screen.
I have my season ticket downloaded.
The ticket is there, the details are there.

I ought to feel like Stat Berners-Lee right now.

But my QR box has actually stretched into a rectangle.

Everything around it is fine.
The writing above and below is fine.

The QR box is spread across the entire blue background.

Any help?

Apple iPhone X here.

Process was completely smooth. Clicked download, authorised, and the ticket appeared in my wallet.

That’s what has happened to my sons when I downloaded his ticket. Not sure if it’s just an android thing or not, I’ve got an iPhone and had no such problems. All I do know is my sons phone doesn’t have NFC so would have to use the barcode/qr code for entry. Unless I get him a better phone.

I don't actually think it's meant to be a QR code On my Google Pay it isn't a QR code but a wide bar code type thing.

If you use NFC at the turnstile it doesn’t matter ?

I must say, I consider myself a handwringing technophobic hysteric but some of the howls of anguish on this thread are a masterpiece.

Many years ago I took my younger brother, Dave, skiing for the day in Vancouver. He hadn't done it before but did alright for a while, but in the afternoon he got tired and started falling over. So he lost the plot and accused me of flagrant irresponsibility, taking him all the way up this mountain, expecting him to be able to . . . :bla::bla::bla: ???

Don't be a Dave.

It just proves that it is possible, with minimal effort, to turn a simple task into a puzzle Alan Turing would have walked away from.

I am receiving the same message as you "this item can only be saved by one person". I only have one email account. I have only downloaded Google Pay once. Tried downloading from the online link rather than the email link too, but same problem. Hopefully HWT will have a solution!

Can you only imagine Bensgrandad, god rest his soul, having to engage with this process ?

I don't think I've ever missed a thread more than this one that 'could have been'. He'll be looking down chuckling at this, with his Omsung Phine.
