Agreed. I know this is commonplace stuff, but I just find it all a bit cringey.

Did...

a) Gus get hold of the Albion media bods and say "Look, the number of season tickets sold is amazing. We clearly have the best fans in the country - I need to get the message out to thank everyone. Oh, whilst I'm at it, do you want me to mention how people can get hold of the last few tickets left?"

or

b) Did the Albion media bods make up this story as part of the current near-constant push to shift the last season tickets?

Does anyone really believe Albion fans are the best in the country? I don't and I bet Gus doesn't either.

Outstandingly cynical, but sadly probably quite right.

Didn't stop me getting excited when I read the little article tho.

Perhaps we really are the best fans in the league.

You're right it is a bit cringey and corporate but at least it shows we're covering every angle at the club now. The club is being handled far more professionally and this is just a part of that; each season ticket could be worth around £1,000+ when you add in merchandise, food & drink so each one sold adds to the club's overall profitability, which is the Boards primary concern for obvious reasons.

Am I being cynical when I suggest the club has put the words into Gus' mouth for that piece, in order to try and sell the last few ST's?!

There's just no pleasing some people is there?

I get all that, and I'm certainly not looking to downplay the achievement of selling as many season tickets as we have, nor the massively positive subsequent impact on the club.

To be honest, emails written in corporate-ese is one of my pet annoyances currently. We have them at work where the marketing/media teams have been hard at work. Nearly every sentence ends in an exclamation mark! It's just what they seem to have to do! It really gets across the impact of something being ever-so-slightly crazy!

That sounds amazing! Got any jobs going there, it must be a great company to work for!

In my experience, cynicism equates to wisdom. I would expect our club to put out these statements, but we don't exactly need help selling the last 50 season tickets. Perhaps it's just something to cheer up the NSC whingers in the absence of any signings this week.

Better that though than some of the communication cock ups we've (the club) made in the past. Have to say, I'm quite fond of an exclamation mark!

Nothing will cheer up the NSC whingers.

As long as the sun rises they will whinge.

It's what makes NSC the forum it is IMO.

Unless I've mis-read you, it seems you're making out that this kind of reporting is something new(ish).

However, the point is that this has been going for years at the Albion.

I have always thought of Brighton as a big club with a large support base, but even I could not have beleaved that we would have 21,0000 sason ticket holders for our second season in the championship at the Amex.

My daughter who is a proud Brighton season ticket holder and goes to school in Reading with her brighton pencil case. She got approched by another girl in her school who is also a Brighton season ticket holder and goes to games with her dad. I can't imagine that there are two seperate Reading season ticket holders in a school in Brighton.

You're right it has but it was previously clumsy and unprofessional, at least now we can construct something that has a positive message, gets the corporate message across and doesn't get issued in a confused manner. Cringey maybe but it makes sense.

Will you stop ruining it for our younger visitors to the forum. Gus really said that. Gus loves Brighton and Hove Albion. He was even in the club shop last week buying a Brighton and Hove Albion bed cover.

I think one of the biggest problems we have in Britain today is cynicism, and the belief that it's clever and smart to be cynical.
Be a bit sceptical, don't necessarily take things at face value; but I find the sneering attitude that so many have today very unattractive and completely unconstructive.
Having said which, I've been listening to managers at newcastle and Sunderland buttering up the supporters for fifty years, so I'm afraid I take Poyet's words with a large pinch of salt; but there's no harm in praising your fans.

A nice positive press release from the club immediately laballed 'cringey' and pretty much made out as a negative..

Only on NSC ey?

Jesus.

Indeed - unbelievable. Only on NSC can a good positive story be pulled apart to find a hidden negative meaning behind it.

Take off your pedant hat Bozza - you know what I mean. A good story slated and accused as being a cynical attempt by the club to sell the last few season tickets.

Why can't peaople take things like this at face value? For whatever reason, there is a story on the OWS saying Gus thinks we are the best fans in the country.

Accept that comment and leave it there. Bask in its warmth and get back to wondering if/when Vicente will come back, or when our next signing will be announced.

No need though was there, tickets all sold all bar the shouting... nothing to promote unless there is suddenly a hidden thousand pushed out there..... it was a nice filler to keep is ticking over until signings arrive... simple
