God you're a mean bunch. Give the guy a decent run. Yes he makes mistakes - but if he's new to it, who doesn't make mistakes? Personally I find he's a lot more fired up than Hawesy ever was - which makes for exciting listening. (Even though I found I was getting excited only to discover the attack was actually at our end!!!)

To be fair most of the mispronounciations of player names were by the guest summariser who clearly was brought in just for this match. The issue with the SCR commentator is that he doesn't do enough commentating and is constantly making mistakes that makes it hard to follow the game. I do appreciate how lucky we are to have full live coverage but I feel this guy is spoiling the efforts put in by his employers to secure this privelege not to mention our enjoyment.

I can forgive the odd mistake of course - all commentators make them, indeed we all make mistakes in our job. But if I made the amount of gaffes as this guy in my job I would be sacked. The bottom line is he needs to get some videos of our recent matches, do some home work on who's who and who we are playing and the next time he's on actually TELL US WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE PITCH in front of him.

I was getting more agitated with the co-commentator. I don't know how much notice he got of this gig, but you'd think that he'd have at least learnt who our players were!

Hopefully this is his first job and he'll get better with a bit of practice. The, err, amount of, err, times he, err, stops and, err, says err is the most off-putting thing for me

I made a similar point on the Luton match thread http://www.northstandchat.biz/showthread.php?p=2763626#post2763626 and it didn't get any better last night.

His commentary really is relentless and the pitch of his voice really grates and makes me feel knackered by the end of the game!

The slight pauses mid sentence and the err-ing plus a long intro sentence to what turns out to be a small fact all through the game does my head in!!!(eg Instead of a Hawesy style "Lets go over to the dripping Pan to see how Lewes are doing" we would get a huge sentence including the opposition manager's name, the weather and what the result was in the first meeting of the season etc and when we switch back to the Albion we've missed something exciting!!) The quality commentators never use too many words but with this guy never one word when 10 will do but he doesn't actually paint anything with what he says during the commentary and I tend to listen to the crowd to determine whats happening!

I always think he commentates as if he was sitting at home watching the game on TV with the sound off commentating to himself. I'm sure we have all done that but we don't believe anyone who says "You should do that professionally"!!

Sadly the whole "Lickergate" affair took its toll on Hawesy. I can say without any doubt he would still be commentating on Albion game had it not been blown out of proportion. A great shame indeed. Nonetheless, Gavin Denison is a very good guy and should be cut a bit of slack. He's been watching Albion for a matter of weeks, not years, and had been commentating on Aldershot until then. It is not an easy job, a measure of Hawesy's class was in the fact he made it sound so eady, but I am certain he will get better with time as he gets to know the Albion.

Firstly how come we ended up with a summeriser who had absolutely no connection to the Albion. Surely there must have been an ex player or somebody that could have done the job. Paul Samarah has done the job in the past I think.

The bloke that did it, I think he was an ex Luton striker (although I could be wrong) was pretty good I thought. It wouldn't have hurt to learn the names of the Albion players but he wasn't helped by the team being numbered 2-11.

The guys is terrible. I agree with the 1st post
If he spent more time describing what was going on rather than reading out scores (and thus ruining match of the day every sat) it would greatly improve his dire efforts so far. I don’t want to know what’s going on at Sunderland v Bolton or Westbrom v Fulham or whatever, tell me what our boys are doing. He is totally error prone as well. Last week when describing Leeds early penalty I remember him saying something like “and this to give Albion the lead” as their lad stepped up. Kind of confusing if you had just tuned in.
We have been spoilt with Hawsey, but this guy is DIRE.

Id just love to see our Swindon supporting chum come back, you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone..

my guess is that Tony Thorpe did'nt know he was doing a co-commentators job until just before the game (whoever was going to do it originally might have been caught up in the M1 stoppage) I thought he(TT) done a good job, as for Gavin Dennison,he has only been doing it for a while and his mispronunciations are very entertaining.

give him a chance

Or the Lewes bloke who seems to think every goal against them is "slightly unfortunate" and that every team they play are niggly, ref harassing, meanies (without acknowledging that Lewes were masters of this under Steve King).

completely agree with this article the commentary was terrible and i also thought the phone in was shit as well. the commentators continues reference to elphick as "ephlick" and then that luton striker calling forster "forrester" who plays for someone in league two.

harty is too getting on my nerves and i thought that he played on the adams cant get his family to the game. nobody was hurling abuse at them and are we all just meant to sit still and say nothing if we are in the relegation zone but oh must be quite as mickys poor unfortunate kids are in the vacinity. sit in the f***ing hospitality place then and you wont be able to see or hear anything, yes it is that bad.

The SCR commentary has also been bugging me for a long time.

When we were playing Cheltenham, we were apparently playing SWINDON. I mean, WHAT?!?

Edit: Noticed someone else noticed this!
