Scotch Eggs - North Road Farmers Market

It appears that Scotch eggs seem to be having a bit of a revival at the moment. The big supermarkets all seem to have premium products out now and also different styles (black pudding, sundried tomato, spicy, etc.).

However, whilst wandering around the the North Road farmers market yesterday I found the best scotch eggs I have ever eaten. There is a guy there selling handmade scotch eggs made with duck eggs. I was tempted by the chorizo one but chose the pork, apple and onion one which was absolutely delicious. They are £3 each but absolutely huge (they have to be to get the meat around the duck egg) and well worth the money.

Get yourselves down there next Saturday and get yourself a half time snack - much better than playing pie roulette in the WSU.

Try them with a dollop of Pick-Your-Willy !!!!!! OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to prefer them with salad cream. I Get mine from local butchers in Pulborough, Mcaughtry, straight forward, no fancy stuff, good old fashioned Scotch Eggs.

Heston B is 'owning' the concept of the runny scotch egg, that is now becoming more popular.

You cannot beat a good scotch egg.I made a batch up recently, bit of cayenne in the sausage meat to spice it up and Japanese panko breadcrumbs doing the business on the outside.Unbeliveable with a bit of brown sauce

Make your own chorizo mix; 750gm minced pork, 2tsp paprika, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 2 crushed cloves garlic, 10grm salt, half glass red wine, pinch of cayenne pepper. Mix together. Form around h/boiled fresh farm eggs [from happy hens!]. Coat in breadcrumbs & bake in pre-heated oven for 30 mins @ 160c. Delicious, prefer mine with HP sauce.

I can recommend the ones from Canham & Son in Hove

These are very good and, to date, are the scotch egg gold standard. The bowl of freshly cooked warm scotch eggs on the ledge in their window is always a welcome sight. I will judge the North Rd offering this weekend.

He even does a couple of vegetarian ones if Frau HT is interested

Thanks. My wife is now warning to sausage meat though. But, the veggie option is a good insurance policy.

Fresh farm eggs from happy hens:thumbsup: is the key ingrediant, with proper sausage meat from the local butcher

Those scotch eggs are indeed the absolute DON of scotch eggs. Proper food that.

Excellent threadage. I'm gonna be all over these at the weekend.

Not sure about Heston 'owning' the runny scotch egg concept - I've had them on multiple occasions and have never been anywhere near a Blumenthal establishment.
