I got put off them many years back when I worked (briefly) for a local cooked meat firm . I used to troll around Sussex in a grubby red van delivering and trying to sell the pies and stuff.
They had a line of retard people (yes really!) with dirty hands smoking, cussing and spitting for fun into the mix, then coating them in breadcrumbs.
I am sure that modern providers are different to that and your recommended ones are ok.....but that image of the past won't go away. I have not eaten one since.
my work colleague is french and bizarrely makes home made scotch eggs which she brings into the office - they are sublime and a completely different experience to the garage shite you get - will defo try the market sounds delicious.
At the market there is a guy who sells quiche and pies, normally set up opposite the scotch egg stall. I really recommend trying them out too. Also there's some excellent little cakes and ting there. Have NONE of you lot ventured in yet?
