What on earth is all this about? Vern Unsworth turned down an offer for a mini submarine saying it wasn't suitable for the cave rescue, but then last night Elon Musk started tweeting vicious allegations calling him a pedo (sic) because he lives in Thailand. The tweets have now been deleted.

Vern Unsworth is considering legal action.

i gather weeks ago Mr Musk responded to a twitterratti debate that "something must be done to help" to go off and build a mini sub, in a pool in California with no input from anyone involved. with his prototype sub built he landed in Thailand about the time the boys were coming out, the local authorities said it wasnt needed and useless for the conditions, he got the huff because the Thais hadn't shown due reverence to the marvel of engineering. after some huffy twitter last week it died down, this chap has reignited it, probably not helpful to put it undiplomatic terms.

What a tw@. That sounds about right, I was trying following the news on the rescue on BBC and the like, but to try and get the absolute latest I was also trying to use twitter. News of this Elon Musk pod kept surfacing, with videos of divers escorting it in a pool under a metal frame. WTF I was thinking, the route bends at angles through 15" gaps, and while they were posting this crap, the boys were already on their way out with divers.

I passed it off as twitter crap. A day later while gaming online (I'm down with the kids) others were saying 'did you see Elon Musk got those kids out'? WTF? No he didn't. I obviously corrected them (I don't save it all for NSC). It seems the youth of today think that what they see on facebook is actually news, and they assumed the kids were brought out in these pods
