Save Brighton Firestation

Help the guys in their fight.

As you will now be aware, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) are selling Preston Circus Fire Station. It is their plan to build a new station at an as-yet unknown site in the city. The reasons given for the sale are that the station is old, 'not fit for purpose', and that Brighton requires a modern 'community' fire station.

We, the firefighters based at Preston Circus, strongly disagree with these claims.
In our opinion, building a new station is an expensive waste of your money. We believe that Preston Circus Fire Station is highly functional and continues to serve the people of Brighton with the same level of efficiency it has always done since its construction in 1937. We see no reason why a change of location to a modern soulless building is necessary. Our station is a legacy to the men and women who have tirelessly served this city from within its walls for the past seventy years. We are proud to work in such a fine building and believe the construction of a new station will be a costly mistake.

sorry, but firestations are functional buildings, if they are "soulless" then so be it. If they have no argument other than that (ie, responce times will go down, facilities will be worse etc), then it should move if the new site offers a better service.

Reasonable points, but I trust the guys on the front line who say it is still highly functional, not some pen pusher trying to justify thier salary.

But hey we all have different viewpoints!

Have to say I agree with beorthelm, the land the old station is on will realise a decent amount of wedge too I am sure.

The firefighters should stick to saving cats from trees and getting keys out of drains and leave the real decisions to be made by those in the know.

Nibble your language on this thread is awful and I PM'd Bozza asking him to warn you about this
This a very important item to people in Brighton - don't drag it down with your gutter speak

Well yes, but the advantage of the current firestation is that it's in the middle of the city. To provide the same level of service (i.e. to get to fires in the middle of town) they would need a similar location. This would cost money to purchase the land - to say nothing of the construction costs. Not sure how much 'wedge' would be left over after all that.

Jebus and Daggit. I actually only swore once. Bit odd to get upset about swearing on a football board. No-matter, on with the matter in hand .
You are all aware that they are not getting rid of the Station? They are just relocating for a more practical service. Oh and if nothing changed in Brighton ever you lot wouldn't be able to wank over those old photos .

Brighton
As previously stated, the key issue is the response times to incidents. As it stands the location is perfect to get to all the brighton & hove quickly.

The way i see it is that the powers that be see the existing spot as a prime bit of real estate that they can make money off selling without any real thought into the concequences of moving

When they get around to demolishing the carbuncle that is New England House, the Fire Station could be relocated in the new build plan. Partly funded by the developer?
