Would be funny to see Mbappe playing in a few stadiums where capacity is less than 10,000! or with 1 man and his dog watching.

Still in Brighton
Assume he'll do his year in Saudi for his billions and then go to Real. Might get a career ending injury though by one of the Saudi cloggers playing for the opposition.... Is there any sport where players still play for glory and titles over money? Tennis?

I'm just curious, without looking it up (be honest ladies and gentlemen) who can:

  1. Name a team in the Saudi League
  2. Point to where they are based on a map of Saudi Arabia
  3. Say what color they play in
  4. Can describe their badge
  5. Can name their stadium
  6. Can say when they last won a trophy
I'll be honest, I'm 0-6 on that. I get about as far as Al-somethingOrOther

I could probably get some of these for most major leagues.

Having spent some time in the region...
1 - yep - think I can get five or six - wasn't aware of Gerrard's new team
2 - yep - Riyadh has Al Hilal, Al Shabaab and Al Nassr; Jeddah has Al Ittihad and Al Ahli
3 - yep - Al Hilal - royal blue (got their adidas 2013 shirt); Al Ahli - green; Al Shabaab - white; Al Nassr - yellow/blue; Al Ittihad - yellow/black
4 - Al Hilal used to be a crescent but now changed; Al Nassr is the outline of the country; Al Ittihad has the best badge - a big number 1!!; Al Ahli similar to the saudi crest...maybe with swords
5 - ah..no...one plays at King Fahd Stadium
6 - they generally share it around the big boys but Al Shabaab won the league I think about 10 years back

This is all hilarious.

All that oil money coming home to roost.

The Premier League will be shitting themselves, but for grass roots football it could be great.

Really looking forward to our season in Europe this year, but I'm just as excited by my Lewes season ticket purchase and I'm hoping that with the dirty oil money buying football we can all start to focus on all of our domestic leagues again.

The hideous EME Super League will be here soon and #TeamsLikeBrighton will be back where we started.

Progress! Pah!

Appreciate money wise this is on another level but years ago players went off to China and a lesser extent India. Never hear of these leagues now although I suppose with there new wealth maybe China will make a comeback

Have you got your Saudi football subscription sorted?

I don’t give a shit how many of the world’s greatest footballers they buy I can’t see me ever watching a single game
It’s just funny that what the PL etc has done for other leagues is potentially happening to them. The Qatari / Saudi element to this is even funnier.

He's used to it having previously played for Monaco.

This is effectively a very, very, very expensive one year loan before he joins Real next summer. The Saudi's will get it back in TV revenue alone this season - a big player is bound to buy up the rights if he does go there.

The interesting thing will be if it encourages more top players and managers at their peak to go over there rather than just those past it or the level below.
