Unfortunately that is all too true. The worrying thing is that Obama took a real hammering by the Republicans in the mid term elections and a lot of Americans are really hurting with the recession. These conditions give rise to right wing groups like the Tea Party being formed who are anti most of the reforms Obama is pushing through. At the minute it looks unlikely Obama will serve a second term.

Doesn't there tend to be a sentiment that midterms are more about the people showing the government they're not happy with what has happened, but they're likely to vote obama back in.

Isn't there also the thought that the tea party will split the right, some voting republican, some voting tea party?

She is (apparently) not liked by high level republicans and the people she supported during the mid terms didn't actually do that great so not such a shoe in.
If the worst happened then god help the world

To an extent I’d agree with that – it’s happened several times in the UK and then the ruling party has been re-elected. But this was one of the worst mid terms for Democrats for decades. Some political commentators are now saying that Democrat supporters are starting to lose faith. Obama was swept into power on such a landslide that expectations were really high. Realistically it will take time to sort out the mess Bush left behind but one problem for him is that the whole election campaign for 2012 starts well before voting day so his time is limited.

can quite easily see her getting elected, though as stated i think her popularity amongst the party has died off a little in recent months.

she was always gonna stand so that's no surprise. unfortunately there's more than enough short-sighted, right wing retarded folk in the middle of the country to elect someone with such limited experience and obviously ridiculous standpoints.

Would she even see out the full term?

The anti-Obama sentiments were thick after just a month of his tenure, and they've been working on it ever since. The Reps are fanatical mongs, and the democrats tend to quietly accede to the noise.

GW should have never been anywhere near the White House, it was just a muppet for his "daddy" the CIA megolamaniac.

Bear in mind they vilified Clinton for smoking a doobie, while GW was a convicted coke-head!
Plus they didn't mind hamstringing a whole government over a blowie for 2 years!

I was referring to her quitting as governer of alaska before her term ended. After claiming she didn't want to be a lame duck governor. If she suffered a blow in the midterms like Obama, would she even see out her first term? f she miraculously got a second term, would she stay on when she realises a third term is impossible, thus the last two years of her term would see her as a lame duck president?

That's why someone like Palin or that other mental Teabag harpy whose name escapes me getting the Republican nomination would be the best thing that could happen for Obama's chances of getting re-elected. A more credible opposition candidate would probably beat him.

Putting Obama in the White House was one of the best things to happen to America for a long time, putting Sarah Palin will be one of the worst. She is totally out of touch with reality and lives in a small narrow minded world where sadly far too many Americans live. If you want a woman in the White House then make if Hillary Clinton. What is so worrying is that many Americans will vote for Palin thanks to her bogus 'family values' stance. The fact that she seems to the rest of the world as littlle more than a small minded bigot won't bother them in the slightest for the simple reason that few Americans give a damn about anybody else let alone their opinions.

I think America is still a bit of a way off electing a woman president. I always thought they would elect a black man before a woman of any colour.
