Hey, no offence meant - I was in my lunch break at work and reading and typing very quickly. Apologies if misquoting you caused annoyance.

 Perhaps I was a bit touchy about it...

Thanks for the apology - appreciated.

It seems extraordinary to me that he would make that comment. You would assume at the interview you would sit down and find out:-

1) Transfer budget
2) Wage Budget
3) If players are sold what % do we get to strengthen team

Its as basic I would imagine as negociating your salary. I would never leave and interview or accept a job where I was unsure of how much I was going to earn.... very odd if you ask me. At least he is getting his excuses in early.

I think as a potential manager you would ask those types of questions and be satisfied you could achieve with the budgets, but what we don't know and never will know is, how many of the high caliber applicants we were told applied, actually turned the position down after finding out exactly the answers to those types of questions.

all based on quote which may or may not be factually correct.

Well, the quote I gave in the OP is factually correct - have a listen yourself! What's up for discussion is what did he mean by it (if anything; some claim it was simply a throwaway comment)?

I think we'll have the 5th highest income next year after the parachuted Norwich, Fulham, Cardiff and Wigan. ( Not sure what state of meltdown Reading are in ).

All other parachutists have approx half the parachute size, which our extra gates and income may match ( perhaps not Wolves ).

It's the FFP Busters which ruin the picture for us. How many of them are there ? ( without getting into liable issues... ).

That's a tough call.

I'd have to wonder of the caliber of applicant if they thought they couldn't do the job without Premier League spending power.
Feeling unable to do the job with a top 10 financial pool would say more about them, than the club.

Oh yeah I didn't mean the words were wrong, just, as is usual in these situations, the interpretation is open to debate.

Really, if they got to an interview and lets us believe for argument sake turned the job down over budgets, the club thought he was of a high enough caliber to offer the position, for him to refuse the post. So now you are saying that you would then question the boards judgement

Got a feeling we'll get nowhere on this shoestring budget. Also have a feeling Sami's not being told everything. He'll walk just like the other two. Said It once and I'll say it again. You're not going to get Into the prem on L2/L1 players/Wages. You want monkeys you pay peanuts. I know FFP is there for a reason but It's more a hindrance, more than anything else. Not helping anyone sept the top teams.

Listen to the press conference. Both parts. It is clear that he is FULLY aware of the playing budget and how it relates to other teams in The Championship-including the TEN clubs on parachute payments. That is more of a hindrance than FFP. As for this 'shoestring budget', perhaps you'd like to tell us exactly how 'shoestring' it is?

Your comments about L2/L1 players and wages are so inaccurate-you really should keep thoughts like that to yourself. Do you truly believe that our squad is/will be made up of L1 and L2 players? Really?

Being interviewed is a 2 way street, if the position of Brighton manager was turned down by an applicant based solely on budget, I would question the ability of that candidate.

That is assuming Tony is correct when he says we are a top 10 budget.

Nobody is being asked to turn a sows ear into a silk purse, here anymore.

If you want to work in top flight English football management, with all the 'glory' and financial reward that entails there are only about 20 jobs available to all comers, we're one.
Anybody would back themselves to win the Championship with a Premier League team, even though history says otherwise.
If you're not going to back yourself here, how good are you?

I think this is an astute point. Sure, you're not going to have the league's biggest budget, probably not even in the top 6 budgets, which is the league table target. On the other hand, you will have amongst the very best training facilities in the country, the support of a very well-respected CEO and, crucially, the support and understanding of a top, top Chairman with realistic ambitions who's prepared to be patient to get to his promised land.

A dead cert? No, of course not - nothing is. A very decent place to prove yourself and potentially get a massive tick on your CV? Yep, I'd say so.

Blooms quote:

“This season ten clubs have parachute payments. Financially you cannot compete with them. Last season it was eight. That doesn’t mean in player salary terms we are below them, we were above at least one of them last year. We will have a very healthy budget again this season"
This is a frightening quote.

With all the dross in the Premier League:-

WBA
Villa
Sunderland
Swansea
palace
Stoke
Hull
West Ham
Newcastle.

Added to the Championships strength and ability to throw up winning teams that have the division 'sussed'.

How long before we just have Premier League 1 & 2?

Winning the Championship or promotion will become as unlikely as winning the Premier League or gaining a top 4 spot for any 'normal' team.

That is the Premier League's intention...

Here we go again.

The thread is trundling along nicely with the next potentially libelous rumour trumping the last, all based on quote which may or may not be factually correct.

Then in marches El Pres, jack booting his way through the entire thread spouting of all things ...

the truth.

When will you ever learn.

The TRUTH has no place on NSC when discussing Barber and Burke.

My head is HUNG in shame :hilton:

He is not interested in the budget. He is only interested in the quality of players the leadership can bring in to achiever their aims. Let's hope those are compatible. If not it will be a problems, and our club will start to look like a poison chalice. We may love the ground, training facilities and full stadiums but managers want success. If the directors cannot produce the tools to do the job we will be stuck here for a long, long time.

Our gate receipts in 2012/13 were £11.8 million. Parachute payments for the first two seasons when a team are relegated from the PL are £18 million and then £9 million for seasons 3 and 4.

The Albion are FFP busters, they lost £14.8 million in 2012/13, which was outside the FFP limit. There were however no sanctions or penalties for teams that broke the rules.
