The budget is good. True we can't compete with the teams that have parachute payments. That didn't stop Burnley going up automatically with a smaller budget. Derby also with a similar budget went extremely close.

We can go up with the budget we have.

So 1 sentence and NSC starts making assumptions - as per usual i guess.

Also, isnt the FFP meeting coming up where limits might change ? That would certainly effect our budget and it could increase, perhaps this is what he means.

Nice one! That could be it.

Here are some things I don't fully understand -

Whether we will be able to retain Leo Ulloa;
Whether we might tempt recently-released players (e.g. PIG) back with an offer of first-team football but on reduced wages;
Whether players that we have an interest in will be available to us with the money we have to spare and the wages they might demand;
Whether FFP rules might change and what 'penalties' will actually result when/if teams breach them;
Whether QPR will suffer a penalty now they have been promoted;
Whether the ticket purchases by non-season ticket holders will reach anticipated levels, particularly if our form dips in the early weeks of the season;
Whether the sales of new kit will raise revenue as projected/hoped by the club.

There are a myriad of others I'm sure but to start a thread questioning the knowledge and/or conduct of the Board and the new manager seems a rather alarmist reaction to a throwaway line that covers a multitude of things that no one knows, or can predict the outcome from; all of which will affect FFP and our 'available' budget for new or re-signing players.

Give it a rest, eh?

I would be very surprised if after the departure of both Poyet and Garcia, with a major contributory factor being the apparent lack of budget to buy, keep or pay the best possible players at Championship level, that the club management would not have been entirely honest and detailed about the budget limitations.

If they really believed they could get another decent managerial name through the door without talking through the precise acquisition restrictions that are being put in place, then that would be foolish in the extreme and thoroughly counter-productive. I could however believe that Hyypia is not fully up to speed with the possibilities and options within the budget boundaries. Players in Germany, I believe are not so highly remunerated in general as those in England, so I would expect him to have a few targets outside the Hispanic peninsula, who might be attractive in both technical ability and budget compatibility. Have we signed anyone from Germany since Maheta Molango........ ?

Got a feeling we'll get nowhere on this shoestring budget. Also have a feeling Sami's not being told everything. He'll walk just like the other two. Said It once and I'll say it again. You're not going to get Into the prem on L2/L1 players/Wages. You want monkeys you pay peanuts. I know FFP is there for a reason but It's more a hindrance, more than anything else. Not helping anyone sept the top teams.

OK I'll bite. We do not have League 2 players, we have decent Championship players. This is why we've finished in the top 6 of the Championship two seasons in a row. We also have a top half Championship budget.

For what it's worth I took the statement to mean that Hyypia doesn't understand the ins and outs of the club's budget, not that he doesn't know what his budget is.

Ummm, I did no such thing. I started a thread quoting the new manager and asking for views about what that quote means. You may be right about the quote being a throwaway line; alternatively, you may not be. Unless you're Sami, you don't know.

It's fine, of course, for you to think that it was a throwaway line that has no significance, and you may well be right. It's not so fine to also say that I started "a thread questioning the knowledge and/or conduct of the Board and the new manager", when that's just plain wrong!

This was obviously an issue for Oscar - as well as Gus 'we've hit the ceiling' Poyet - so I really hope it's not going to be an issue for Sami, and they've fully explained that our budget is limited.

Yes, indeed. I'd be pretty sure that the budget would have been discussed, and he kind of implies that it was by his use of the words "...maybe...not fully...." (my emphasis), but he's, imo, clearly indicating that there are gaps in his knowledge, which is a bit worrying.

If those gaps are tiny, it's to be understood. If however, there are material gaps (which perhaps there might be, otherwise why would he bring the point up at all?), it's not great.

It seems extraordinary to me that he would make that comment. You would assume at the interview you would sit down and find out:-

1) Transfer budget
2) Wage Budget
3) If players are sold what % do we get to strengthen team

Its as basic I would imagine as negociating your salary. I would never leave and interview or accept a job where I was unsure of how much I was going to earn.... very odd if you ask me. At least he is getting his excuses in early.

I never said we have L2 players. What I meant Is thats probably the sort of players we will more than likely get In due to being El Cheapo.

Hmmm. Is Toko league 2 standard then? We want to re-sign Ward - is he league 2? What about Odubajo of league 1 Orient? In fact, please show me where we are linked to a league 2 player this summer.

I think you're missing the point. I NEVER said we are linked to anyone In L2 but that's more likely the option. As for TOKO. I bet 99% of this board has never heard of him before. With Ward. if someone else Is Interested. He'll go there as money WILL be a factor. Now for the final one Odubajo or whatever his name is. Sure he scores at L1 level but he Is unproven and l.Orient will probably command a high price for him. You know there's a HUGE gap between L1 and the Championship. Already had one from Peterborough which cost an arm and a leg. Hardly a replacement for everyone favourite villain Murray was he.

Would I be right in thinking you get a bit more for your Euro when shopping in Germany?

No - we don't know that Bruno and Calde are staying for sure! Calde's player bio is still on the club's website, leading many to conclude that he's signed his offer, but there has been no official confirmation. We do know that we're trying to get Ward to sign a permanent deal.

Stuff like this merits its own thread - can I suggest that you start one entitled something like "Sami's press conference in Finland"?

Bruno is listed as an Albion player on wiki but not Stephen Ward. We have two left backs on the books though, although I do not think either of them are up to the grade. 18 listed. Seven needed. I don't mind just six leaving room for an emergency signing next January if we are in contention. Getting six will be hard enough.

Maybe you british fans already knew these things but at the end of the press conference Hyypiä also said that Bruno and Calderon will continue for sure, and that they will try to keep Stephen Ward as well, but Ward is not a certain thing yet.
Your'e English is better than most on here including mine.
