They are miles off winning anything don’t have the mentality for it. Today a top side would build on the goal and put the game to bed by half time but we saw every dirty time wasting trick in the book today and their negative approach saw a deserved loss of much needed points.

Absolutely, asuumed they were just keeping their powder dry, turns out they didn't have any to use.

During the game I was trying to work out, if there was a table detailing time to take a throw or deadball situation when leading who would be top, in taking the longest average time, Arsenal or Villa.

Difficult to decide

Tbh Villa have cleaned up a bit, I don’t feel they are quite as bad now, maybe because they are generally playing better.

All teams dive a bit and waste time but Arsenal are out there doing it at the start of games and just generally as a matchday tactic.

They're horrible. And I was quite surprised how much they've regressed. Arteta seems to have been sent doolally by repeated failure. Their time-wasting was insane. Half way through the first half and they're at it. Every corner and every throw. I said to the guy next to me, that I'm alright with it. Shoes how insecure they are. Proper good teams don't come and cry and roll about like that. They try and put you away with confidence. That ending of the first half was ridiculous. I was going to start a whip round to get some wreaths with the number of arsenal players that looked like they were going to mysteriously pass away in Innocuous circumstances. Interestingly enough, for the 'small' team, when it was 1-1 we never did it. Pushed on to try and win.

Once shithousing and relying on 'margins of superiority' like free kicks and stuff gets a grip of your culture and footballing DNA I don't think you can be credible challengers. Its like Arteta tried Pep and is now trying out Benitez.

The last time ive seen cheating that bad was villa a couple of years ago but they were under new management and threatened with relegation and about to go into the world cup so were desperate for the points.
Same re: Villa, and also Fulham that season.

Both sides went 1 up and then every challenge was a "head injury"...

I've just logged on after a day in A&E with my mum, a few reciperative pints and am  very happy to read this thread. I've a mate who fits the profile of some of the Arsenal fans mentioned on here who was sitting next to an Albion mate at tonight's game. Can't wait to catch up with them both in the pub next time.

We took 5 points off them last season but they go on about Villa costing them the title. And that stupid corner routine does my head in. They were pretty clueless in open play against us earlier this season. Boring boring Arsenal.

They have had 9 players booked this season for time wasting.

Says it all, really.
And you know if refs applied the rules consistently it would be much more. Raya probably could have picked up 9 on his own this season and how Rice didn’t get a yellow today I don’t know. Took the piss on that free kick when he had one player come over to chat about what to do, then another does the same. Plus taking a couple of minutes on the corners he took before the ref finally booked one.

Absolutely hate what they do. Quite admired the football and style they had under Wenger but as mentioned by others, they’re just a glorified Stoke.

Is it just me, or do refs seem shit scared to give anything against the England 'golden boys' these days? In addition to Rice, Kane, Rashford, Foden, Saka et al seem to get/got decisions and leniency that others don't. Look at the one time Rice got a contentious one against him (against us this season), the media were all over it and their fans/staff are probably still crying about it now.

I saw a little tactical analysis of their free kick set-piece shitehousery on twitter.

Essentially, they chose an opposition player to bundle in to a position that plays them all onside. The example below is the pushing of Georginio. By the time the Arsenal player has run into him and knocked him a few metres towards goal, Georgie is playing the vast majority of Arsenal players onside. Horrid tactic.

It's incredible that Arteta has got a £500m+ team playing like and employing the same cheap tricks as Pulis's Stoke did. Pulis's side got pelters in the media, despite the fact he was just getting the best out of a team mostly made up of journeymen, why don't Arsenal?

I wonder what Wenger makes of their 'style'... They can't be far off bringing in a long throw expert and a Kenywne Jones-type striker.

I had a little fish around on the Arsenal forums last night, and also the comments section on the Guardian match report, and a LOT of their fans are getting extremely cheesed off and embarrassed at the blatant timewasting tactics they are employing - especially at how early they are doing it. Its certainly not gone unnoticed.

9 bookings now for timewasting this season. The next closest team has 3. Pathetic for a supposedly title-chasing team.
