……using Tony’s data

Is he? I've seen it reported a lot that he learned Spanish during lockdown but I don't know if that makes him an expert on the market.
His main focus when he was Emerging Talent Scouting Manager was South America. He did a lot of the work to get the deals for Moises, Alexis and Julio over the line. The data can identify these players but it's worthless if you can't convince said players to join. He also has a lot of knowledge of the complexities within the contracts of South American players, this is what will be hard to replace.

We’ve got a habit of not putting all our eggs in one basket, so hopefully someone(s) has been working alongside SJ and learning from him over the past few years. It’s a two way street.
Not sure Rangers is a step up although the cash will probably be tempting.

We keep being told the Albion is an excellent place to work yet everyone seems to bugger off at the first time of asking. Will be interesting to see if Jewel is out the door sharpish. I understand players and managers being offered obscene amounts of money to the likes of Chelsea yet surely the back stage staff must be on a competitive wage.

Job promotion sure, but can’t imagine moving to the SPL and trying to attract players would be a great career choice.
Head of recruitment to Director of Football is one hell of a jump though especially seeing as how he was only promoted a few months back and is still young

Competitive for their respective roles yes (remember our wage bill is bottom 6 in the PL, suspect that runs throughout the club), but a Technical Director's role is a big upgrade from a Head of Recruitment role……..Jewell may also want the challenge/development of the bigger job now, and if he thinks there’s little chance of getting it with us any time soon (ie until Weir gets poached by Chelsea  ) it’s easy to see why it might be attractive……

To an extent, for sure. However other people from the club will have been involved in these deals and have some of that knowledge.

It's also possible (if he leaves) we replace him with an external candidate who has similar knowledge/experience, as we aren't the only club signing players from the region.

Also, re: Moises, he may well have played a big part but we were also fortuitous that we had an existing relationship with his club from when we signed Billy Arce (before Jewell's time).

Is it too arrogant to suggest that if he DID leave, the club would be OK because we are a much more attractive destination for players than we were when, for example, we were promoted? Well-run club, inspirational and up-and-coming manager, competitive in the league and European football (even though that might just be this season).

Not only that, but there's now a proven track record of players who have come to the club, got their chance and either established themselves or moved onto bigger and better things.

Honestly, I reckon *I* could sell the club to players and my sales technique is SHITEHOUSE 🤣🤣

Lots of folk quoting this internet expert and that internet expect.

The only thing I trust the internet with is the football scores. And even then it's not guaranteed.

Seems like he's staying.

'Inglethorpe has emerged as an alternative to Sam Jewell, who was under consideration by Rangers but chose to remain with Brighton, where he serves as the head of scouting.'

On a slightly related subject, the Rangers fans now seem to really rate Sima, after a dodgy start. The loanee thread included a link to a thread about him, including people saying that his (imaginary) price tag of £10m was way too much for them to afford. Am I bad for now thinking that £10m isn't a huge amount of money for where we are now and is the gulf between the PL and the MTL (for one of the 'big' two) really that big?

The gulf is that big. Crazily, we have many time the resources of Rangers now

If Rangers are looking to poach one of our backroom staff, they are running a bit of a risk, seeing as we presumably have a recall option on Sima, and we're a little short in the attacking line, (or we certainly will be when AFCON and the Asia Cup starts).

If you're loaning players in, it makes sense to keep good relations with that club. It would be easy for us to recall the bloke and loan him elsewhere or play him here.
