The chavs have always been there, like they have in every single other part of Brighton or Hove.

It's no better or worse than it ever was. I can remember a bunch of 1970s chavs ( probably with Burberry flares ? ) called the 'SVA' in the 1970s (Saltdean Vandals Association).

I see very little crime in Saltdean now though, and everyone gets on well, part of a very nice community. The kids outside the Co-Op are just that, kids. My eldest is probably one of them. They are too young to go to the pub, but too old to hang out in the park.

I think Saltdean has matured into a real decent and pleasant community and me and Mrs Mart honestly cant think of a better place to bring up our offspring.

I lived in Saltdean from 1968 to 1984 (with parents). Spanish Lady was 60 seconds walk door-to-door - spent almost every night in there in the late 70's - I remember the SVA too - that was only a bit of fun though - bloody hell that was a long time ago.

This is starting to feel like Friends Reunited!

So you would remember my friends the Stavrous, then?

Err no?
Do you mean Stavros as in Teli Savalis?

I mean the Stavrou family who have lived in Longridge Avenue for the last thirty years, plus.

I don't remember them ... where in Longridge Ave?

I knew Mike Fuller who lived above Barclays Bank (both long since gone)
I knew Julian Tighe who lived above the shoe shop (Dalengers)
And I vagely remember the couple who moved in above the Green Grocers who came down from Bishop Stortford - he had a Triumph Stag - just can't remember their names.

I agree SM-I've been here for 6 years now and it is definitely the nicest part of Brighton that I have lived in.

I remember Basil the Newsagent. :lolol: ...

Re the Harveys at the Black Horse: they give you one and a half pints of IPA, in a giant glass, for the same price as a normal pint but this does NOT in any way compensate for the loss of the Harveys.

It's just not Sussex.
