But for the SA government, selectors and the D'Oliveira business happening when it did, who knows what Graeme Pollock could have achieved before he retired? I think he was cut short in his prime.
Right, He 'retired' from test cricket at the age of 26 and when you consider that he had played all his tests but one against Australia and England (no gimmes there) and played on uncovered wickets, his record is remarkable. He didn't even reach his peak, who knows what he'd have done.

Update on Harpergate - apparently the TV feed he watched the Smith replay on didn't have sound. Who turned the volume down? Unmask this monstrous meddler, I say, and have him paraded round the outfield, dragging three giant screens behind him, while ace-armed fielders use him as tomato target practice. Sidebots swings gently in to Amla, and the biggest beard in Test cricket blocks and leaves.

I don't see how this different from Atherton versus Donald at Trent Bridge in 1998. Atherton clearly gloved the ball and was given not out. I deplore the trend in not walking but to claim that it's something that South Africa do and England don't is far from the case.
