The difference is in England we ban lads for standing up for them selves against a mob of Russians and in Russia their politicians applaud and even join their hooligans..

true.......we ( at govt level ) are so frightened of offending anyone.....apart from our own people. i know a few lads who were in marseilles ,there were a lot of retired heads present , most of them with their wives and in some cases family.....the Russians were basically on a wrecking spree.

European and other countries just don't have the intel on known hoolies that the UK has amassed over decades. Thousands of travel banning orders mean that few, if any organised UK outfits are going to be in Russia, as in France last year. Other countries can probably put together something, and it will be interesting as many of the old eastern block lot have got some pretty heavy previous with Russia in general. Whoever steps up to have a pop, or make a show of strength/unity may find tear gas coming their way followed up by the 'Ultra' Putin Peacemakers wading in.

judging by what I have seen advertised as "forest fighting" I wish to lodge a complaint I saw a farmers field, a wasteland area, and a snow covered field.....

Not once did I see a fight in a forest amongst the redwoods, elms, oaks and birch them Russians can talk a good forest, but when push comes shove it's all bollox.

You make very reasonable points, but these sort of programmes/the media does inflate the risk. We're veterans of several tournaments (including last summer) and have yet to face any bother.....but we're all getting older and have other people to consider these days. We'll make a decision closer to the time, and on a related note, see how affordable it all is - a category 3 group game ticket(through legitimate channels) will set you back £85

All those previous tournaments were in different countries and at different points in time, I'm unsure if they will allow you to forecast on what Russia holds. I obviously hope that you are safe but my worry is based on the police more than anything. There will be collusion between the Russian hooligans and the police, we also know that the state media will not portray either in a negative light. I cannot think of a tournament which has combined these three and jacked it up further with a very anti-UK attitude.

Perhaps for this one we need to just allow all our banned nutters to travel. 'Accidentally' due to cutbacks in the boarder force of some-such. Look the other way, let our meatheads travel and find and there's, have a ruck and do so in some remote part of Moscow. Leaving everyone else to act reasonably. Let the Ruskies pick on people their own size. Otherwise all that's going to happen is a horrendous time for the families who these days travel with England, who will be targeted as they're sat down to eat in a square, because they'll be the only English over there.

I don't say this lightly but I reckon you'd be mad to go to the World Cup and go out drinking as a group of male supporters. Friends went to Moscow for a Chelsea match and were attacked just walking down the street and in their Hotel. They were not singing, did not have colours but the local mob knew exactly where to find them.

Unlike UK Hools (with a few exceptions) there is no distinction between the average fan and Hooligans. If you go to the World Cup as a make group you'd better be prepared to defend yourself.

I think UK hools need to acknowledge that this lot have taken the 'game' to a new level of violence and play by different rules.

This is a serious worry, as we have already seen exactly this happen in France. Russia has this need to prove itself as the toughest/best at everything, so any English fans in groups sounding off will become a valid target. Doesn't help that the media labels nearly all groups of England shirters as 'hooligans', validating the Putin boys actions, even before the first plastic chair goes airborne.

Does put me off going to Russia, but then I think back to South Africa and the scare stories of crime and security, which wasn't really a problem in the end.
