There's movement from Zelensky on the criteria for a ceasefire.

He says he is willing to give up regaining the occupied territories (wait - read on) if he can join Nato.

This may be a clever move as it shows he is willing to flex. However, he knows that Ukraine joining Nato will be a non-runner for Putin.
So unless Putin makes a similar concession (somewhat unlikely), then Putin will be seen to be the bad guy going into the peace talks. Which of course he is.

Yeah, it’s unlikely to ever play out that way but someone needed to begin to de-escalate the current situation.

You all know my take on it; don’t back down an inch and up the ante when it comes to pounding the dirty Russians into dust.
Hospitals. Civilians. Power plants. Military bases.
Missile attacks on Russian soil with zero quarter given to anyone.

Serve them up a solid month of relentless carpet bombing the living f*** out of every square inch of Russia they can reach.

Teach every man, woman, and child in Russia a lesson they will never forget.

Putin will give up. I am 100% certain of it.

Meanwhile in the Gerogian national broadcaster (equiv BBC).

Our draw at Stains started off the weekend badly for us, but there's a russian fascist holed up in the Kremlin, seemingly having a much worse weekend.

Let's f***ing go Georgia!

I don't think he would, because if that happened and he gave up, he'd be dead, so he'd have to fight. If it was made clear that your suggestion was ultimately going to happen over time if they didn't withdraw (whilst 'claiming' victory and removal of Nazis etc), perhaps that could allow the solution we want?

We effectively did that to Cologne, Dresden, Leipzig etc. towards the end of WW2. Certainly broke the German spirit.

It's all unravelling a bit for that prick in the Kremlin. Ruble going down the pan. Trouble in Syria, trouble in Georgia.

Actually there’s very little evidence it did much more than the Blitz broke the British spirit in 1940. It caused many more casualties but the bombing didn’t break their spirit.

Seeing a load of Soviet or American tanks rolling past your front door? THAT breaks the spirit.

He did say...' if Russia does not immediately return the occupied territories ' 😉
I read somewhere (usual procedure - don't ask where), that a Nato-lite option might be possible, i.e. not full membership, but Ukraine coming underneath the Nato protective umbrella.

I think Zelensky is positioning himself as open, willing to listen, willing to do a deal, and a voice of reason in direct contrast to Putin, who thinks displaying nudey pics of Melania on Russian TV, and making a veiled death threat to Trump, is a good preparation for peace talks.

Zelensky is streets ahead of Putin.

sounds like they'll end up ceding the currently occupied land for a seat in NATO. boarder would be defacto redrawn, because you cant enter NATO with a dispute, right? score draw.

Did we have this on here already?

That's significant. Turkey closed the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul after the war began, to Russian military traffic.

So Turkey calling for Crimea to be returned to Ukraine, suggests that when Russia refuses to do it (which it will until it is forced to give Crimea back), then the Bosphorus would probably remain closed to Russian military vessels, even after the war ends.

This would negate the very reason that Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. From a geographic/strategic perspective, this would be a real blow. It has always coveted Sevastopol, its only warm water port that doesn't freeze in winter.

Not hospitals, not citizens, not schools. It's very important that Ukraine/ it's allies keep some moral high ground. Everything else, yes, but not the civilians.

If it were up to me I'd throw absolutely everything at any place putin has been known to frequent before I agreed to any peace deal. Literally everything that goes boom directed at his favourite places. Really think ending putin ends this the fastest way, best way, possible for everyone.
