Brilliant stuff, I loved reading that and seeing the pics 😍. I'm sure your visit has given the children a new perspective and some different things for them to discuss! No doubt they are all Seagulls fans now!
If you decide to raise money to fund the outdoor play area... don't be shy to ask nsc for help... I feel sure you'll get some.
Congratulations again 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.
100%. Happy to contribute to this.

I can't figure out if Nadezhdin is a real anti war candidate, or a token set up and approved by the Kremlin so that Putin can have a resounding victory over SOMEONE.
Anyhow , thousands of people queued in the cold to at least get him on the ballot sheet.

Thanks. Outdoor area wise, Not really sure how this is going to look yet. The exisiting area is 20m x 40m so 800m2. Various sources on the internet give a rough cost of £25/m2 so around £20k, so a big ask, fundraising wise. Not even sure what that kind of price would cover. I will certainly ask for help and advice from this font of all knowledge but also look further afield, if there are any grants, write to the FA, contact clubs that have Ukrainian players and Ive even thought that our own PBOBE would be a good place to start to ask for advice given his contacts in the FA.

Very sensible options there - yes, would be nice if the FA, clubs could help. Re the costing, local labour may be cheaper than your internet searches (unless you searched Ukraine rates). Good luck and let us all know if you need funds 👍👍

There are a couple of other possible scenarios, besides him being a real anti-war candidate, or a token Putin puppet to give the semblance of a free elective democracy.

First, it is possible he is a stalking horse to harvest the names of all those who vote for him. Putin may be going for absolute, total control of all his subjects. To be fair, he's got a bit of previous on this.

Second (and this one is - really - out there), he may be an off-ramp for Putin. He may, by some miracle, 'win' the presidency, thus giving Putin a legitimate excuse to retire, escape with his life, and ride off bareback into the Siberian sunset. Anything is possible in Russia.

I agree with your first 'other scenario ' 😉

Is Europe waking up?🤞🏻This from the Guardian today:

France has long argued for Europe’s “strategic autonomy” but, while EU defence cooperation has quietly been stepped up since 2022, a joint defence capability remains divisive. An EU army remains taboo.

Macron gave a speech in Sweden this week in which he warned that Europe needed to ramp up its entire defence effort and security architecture to prepare for the possibility of Biden’s defeat. Europe, he said “must be ready to act to defend and support Ukraine whatever it takes and whatever America decides”.

Army and defence chiefs across Europe have also started talk openly about war and preparedness – or lack of it. Sweden reintroduced compulsory civil defence for the first time since the end of the cold war on 19 January.

Russia suffers massive internet outage - could Putin be creating 'sovereign internet'?

If so... ordinary life in Russia could approach North Korean levels in a few years.

How interesting. I wasn't aware of Operation Trust, so I googled it.

Now that I have postulated the stalking horse theory, I find that the creation of a fake, anti-war (=anti-Putin) lobby in Nadezhdin has a precedent in the creation of the fake anti-Bolshevik movement in the 1920s. I am often reminded that Putin is a student of Russian history. This is another reminder.

Of all those options I think it’s most likely a sham to give some sort of credibility to the election. Any serious opposition candidates are already dead or in jail…..or soon will be

Got back from our trip to the orphanage in the early hours of sunday morning. Pretty intense week, a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with some incredibly lovely and appreciative people. Flew to Rzeszow in Poland then a 9 hour overland trip, crossing the border at around 3 in the morning. Great welcome and a concert held in our "honour". Lots of donations for the children for which they were all grateful, especially the powerbanks and toiletries, partly funded by the wonderful people of NSC. 5 air alarms which meant a few hours spent with the kids underground, singing and playing Uno. Did a quiz on English football and the Ukrainians that have played or are stil playing in England. Played Volleyball with some of them, my 58yo knees didnt thank me for that. Taught them to cook apple crumble and was then treated to an amazing tea party with the students. Another cultural quiz about the Uk, a tour of the college, taken to watch the Philharmonic Orchestra one night and pretty much treated like royalty. One of the students said that others had visited before but no one had actually interacted with the students before. Other trips and projects with them will be discussed but one of the things I am keen to work on is getting them an outdoor sports area. Currently in disrepair and in need of a new all weather covering. Ive attached some images and if anyone has questions Ill answer when I can. Thanks all.

Yes, I agree. But I've just watched a video with Jonathan Fink and Konstantin Samoilov, and they are saying that Nadezhdin has already gone a bit rogue, i.e. strayed away from what the Kremlin would want him to say. He might be worth keeping an eye on!
