The real costs of Russia's sanctioning of Joe Biden:

No comfy retirement at his dacha in Sochi.
No open-top bus tour of Moscow, with full propaganda commentary in English.
No personal guided tour of Putin's vast mansion complex on the Black Sea, including stops at the casino, ice rink and strip club.
No bare-chested huntin' shootin' and fishin' trips on horseback with Vladdy no mates in the Siberian wilderness.

Hang on in there Joe.

Yes, but if we want to reduce dependency on China then we could start small. Then western manufacturing will slowly ramp up.
Also, some manufacturing is now moving out of China to Vietnam e.g., as wages go up in China. Yes, it'll take decades to adjust.

It's a lovely thought, but it'll take far more than decades, even if it could be done, small or otherwise. China/goods-wise, we've made our beds there, and bear in mind folk here are struggling financially now, let alone when all the added increases come home to roost, it's just not feasible.

Just using your example of walking shoes - the vast majority who are in the market for a pair cannot afford to pay double, and even if they could, it's but a mere drop in the ocean as to what would be required.

So the sentence for the woman who held the sign on the Russian news was a small fine.

What do you make of this? Is it a sign of judicial independence? Is it a sign, on some level, they do actually care what the world thinks? Are they going to come back with other charges?

Putin likes his revenge served cold. Wait for the furore to die down, then she'll suddenly and unexplainedly come into contact with some polonium, or suffer a fatal 'mugging' in a dark back street.

Captain Y fronts has Parliamentary privilege, you however do not.
Nice.

If that's true, it's not particularly slanderous is it?

And if it is true, this is the type of knowledge and truth that should be public, however much it might hurt some.

Christ on a bike, I'd love to be left alone in a room with Putin, with a scimitar
and some pliers.

There are skills shortages in & around "The Silicon Fen", but that's more to do with increasing demand than brain drain. There are loads of tech businesses seeded out of ex ARM staff there and plenty more that decided to start up there just because of the skills & knowledge locally.

Apparently, there aren't many ARM staff worried about the redundancy - they will most likely walk into new jobs very easily and have been promised that their weighty bonuses will be honoured.

Timely announcement - nothing for UK obviously but…

Your Suwalki corridor theory. Its not a theory.

Openly talking about the invasion from Belarus to Kalinigrad on state TV today, you wont need to undertand the lingo, you'll understand.

Is this definitely genuine? Apparently (according to one of the comments) they are discussing a scenario for taking over the Baltics, deploying their air defense systems and declaring a no-fly zone.
Just surprised this hasn't received more coverage if so.

Great twitter thread from Gary Kasparov on why we should stand up to Putin.

[tweet]1503819568879394822[/tweet]

fwiw we did enforce a lmited no fly over Syria and shot down 1 Russian aircraft, as much as we all hated the orange buffoon in the White House, when Assad via Russia was using chemical weapons against Civillians in Syria, the Trump white house warned them not to do it again, the next time they did it he stuck a load of Cruise Missiles into the airbrase from where the Chemical attacks happened and they called the Russians to tell them categorically it will not happen again, a Russian base with Russian personnel.

Syria never again used chemical weapons after that strike. Strength works, weakness guarantees Russian escalation.

Agree, tho over 60% only get news through state TV, so theyre brainwashed with lies.

That makes (by some reckoning) 40% "dogshit"?

Seriously, some on here are beginning to sound like Ppf and his ilk.

The vast, vast majority are (or at least were) going about their lives a few weeks ago.....as were we all.

Don't start blaming the barrel for a few rotten apples.

According to my wife, this is a well known kind of propoganda show in Belarus. The guy is talking about what Belarus will do in WW3, take over Gotland where NATO has its radar and then invade the Baltic countries. The audience are pretty much laughing at him.

So are they presenting this scenario as another necessary 'special military operation'?

No-one....anywhere...will be 'taking over' anything but a toxic wasteland, should we enter WW3. Anyone who thinks otherwise is utterly deluded.

Wonder if Belarus TV is reporting the war factually unlike Russian TV
