Zelensky's speech tonight, specifically the part addressed to the Russian people will go down in world history.

One day it may even bring down Putin. Revolutions start with the smallest sparks.

So many will die. For nothing.

Twitter thread, just 3 of the highlights below :

PUTIN: "To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside: if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history. All relevant decisions have been taken. I hope you hear me."

Shocking stuff in Putin's address right now

Sounds of war echoing through Ukraine, where will this go from here ?. Biden says he’s praying for their citizens caught in this invasion. Putin’s long game of destabilising the East of Europe seems to be coming to fruition, made easier by his successful interference in splitting the EU. Scary times ahead !

Putin announced it on the telly while the UN Council was sitting, making all their pleas for peace and restraint obsolete. Stay classy, Vladimir!

And almost certainly pre-recorded, so you can be sure the Russian chair of the UN Security Council knew exactly what was taking place as the others spoke. Thumbing their noses at the world.

He knew. He spoke about ten or twenty minutes after it started kicking off.

This is just surreal - this actually feels close, and that it could escalate rapidly.

It IS close. It is happening next door to NATO countries, so, in effect, next door to all member states, given mutual defence agreements.

From a Canadian perspective, Brighton is closer to the Ukraine border than Ottawa is to Winnipeg.
