Some reports of Russians saying they looked Chechen heritage, but can of course be framed as working for Ukraine.

Awaiting the theatre presentation from Russian state media...
Well there's always the chance it was Islamic militants, but with Putins form for this very thing, a healthy dose of scepticism is not amiss.

In English:

"To the families of those who died in the terrorist attack - my sincere condolences, and my heartfelt strength to all the loved ones of the victims.

Terrorists understand only retaliatory terror. No courts and investigations will help if force is not countered by force, and total executions of terrorists and repression against their families are not countered by deaths. World experience.

If it is confirmed that these are terrorists of the Kiev regime, it is impossible to do otherwise with them and their ideological inspirers. All of them must be found and ruthlessly destroyed as terrorists. Including officials of the state that committed such an atrocity.

Death for death."

so they know who did it already….

all so predictable, I did initially think they might blame a weaker target and tactically withdraw announcing their work is complete in the Ukraine and send a small force to flatten said small rebellious region, but now think they are going to blitz the Ukraine and possibly more, WW111 here we come, buckle up the next few days could be future defining

This will be interesting if the Americans now release their intelligence on the threat, especially if it’s fundamentalist Islamists.

Not that the Russian people will ever know it’s not Ukrainians.

He's not yet saying outright "Ukraine did it", but he's laying the groundwork..... "if it turns out Ukraine did it......."

tbh even if it was a genuine ISIS type attack (though timing as mobilisation is announced is well suspicious), I still wouldn't be surprised if the Kremlin tried to still spin it that they were hired by Ukraine.

The least likely scenario is they admit it was just Islamic extremists, we were not prepared and they escaped.

We'll find out soon enough but some form of blame on Ukraine seems most likely? It feeds the wider propaganda narrative.

They don’t care what the Americans think, this would be for an internal audience.
The Kremlin doesn't care if its ridiculous lies are believable - in fact it reflects in the glory that the lie is so see-through and yet there is nothing anyone can do about it. They do what they want. Points scored.

What an absolutely twisted, screwed up country.

They suffer what is at first appearance, a genuine terrorist attack, and rather than go after the true culprits, because the optics don't match their ideal of a united Russian federation, they use the attack to perpetuate their illegal war in independent Ukraine.

Edit, I've just seen that Medvedev put an 'If' in front - I read it three times and didn't see the "If" , didn't expect to see it, so I didn't.

Wow, their interrogations are so fast, and these guys were obviously carrying Ukrainian passports and swastikas as usual.
Can't wait to see the mugshots of the captured men.
Will be a shame if some relatives of the Russian elite, or politicians have been inadvertently caught up in the tragedy, due to poor research from the FSB.

I really thought they would announce something more subtle this time...but no, 💯 predictable as many of you have said.

So, mass mobilisation, mass shelling of Ukraine as retribution... The west had better hurry up with those promised supplies of shells and more air defense.

You would have thought that Putin would have had Medvdev's statement proofread before sending it to Medvedev after all these years. If you are going to tuck someone up for this in advance, at least get your grammar and diction In order.

Was just pointed out on Twitter, " Russia has effectively been a police state for the last 20 odd years, police and FSB control and patrol everywhere...so how come there is no armed security at a theatre in Moscow and it takes an hour for police and FSB to arrive " ?

And that's when they are at war, and after US and UK intelligence have warned them a terrorist attack is imminent.

Bewildering.

Exactly - they had armed police in every little polling station but somehow (even after they recently thwarted a terror attack on a synagogue 2weeks back, allegedly) ...there were none posted at or near this concert/ shopping centre. 🤔🤔🤔
