A little light relief before the FA Cup tie:

'Ukraine war: What does facial recognition software make of Putin’s backdrop crowd?'

I would guess that for security reasons ( fear of being bumped off) he can only ever trust a crowd of individuals that have been vetted and can be trusted.

Tentative signs that the Russian forces are splintering.

'Soledar: Ukraine battle hints at rift in pro-Russian forces'

This follows a report I've only just seen, that dates back to before Christmas:

According to recent news reports, the Russians are releasing prisoners to fight in Ukraine. Seems like a good plan, we could release some of our convicts to support the Ukrainians.

An update on today's situation in Soledar and Bakhmut area . Includes two short videos from soldiers on the ground. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...y-denies-russian-forces-have-captured-soledar
Weve sent money, recently, to medics working in Bakhmut, for winter equipment and to go towards a generator. Our main contact was the Mum of a medic there that my wife knows. His Mum was saying, that he said, that the worse thing is the smell of dead bodies everywhere as the Russians dont take their dead with them.

Yes I've read a number of posts on twitter about that (but didn't re-post them here). I believe especially the Wagner lot ignore their dead, just keep running over them in the next attack, or use them like sandbag shields. Horrible stuff.
It's good you had that trusted contact to send money to the medics 👍👍. That's also how Mrs Raymondo prefers to send funds - it means we wait a while for opportunities, but we trust them.
All the best. R

Cheers. Yes, finding trusted recipients and sending the money that way has given me the most belief that we can actually make a difference. Hope your wifes family is keeping safe.

Yes, family are safe thank you, and I hope yours are too. Four displaced internally, four 'safe' in Zaporizhzhya, and her parents, in occupied village north of Melitopol say it's quite calm at the moment 🤞.
Good luck with keeping up the support when you can 👍.

Lots of good, new news on military hardware and technology that's now with Ukraine or on its way. France, the US and finally Germany really helping in a big way.

Also a story of how 15,000 Ukrainians were saved.

On the Telegraph website, unfortunately behind a paywall.
I was listening to PM on R4 yesterday and they were saying that Germany had still not agreed to send any of their Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Not only that, they were refusing to sign export licences to allow other countries (eg Poland) that had purchased Leopards to send them to Ukraine.

I wonder what their motivation is for that? Putin put the wind up them somehow?

A message of support and best wishes for all NSCers who have family/relations in Ukraine, or displaced elsewhere.
I can't begin to imagine the trauma and stress you will have undergone.

One day, it will be over. Let's hope it's really soon and that when it does happen, it will be permanent, so that Ukraine can rebuild free of fear.

Russia must be rendered incapable of going on the warpath ever again.
