Putin is a bully who will almost certainly back down if faced up, maybe we should be sending NATO into Ukraine and even into Russia. Big big call though

I agree with that, but doesn't it depend on what your objective is?
If you want to prevent further damage to Ukraine and lives lost, then yes, maybe Nato need to go in. But the results might be unpredictable. As you say, it's a big, big call.
If you want to weaken Russia still further, and disable the Russian war machine for decades, then I would suggest we continue to do exactly what we are doing. Russia has broadcast its military weakness to the whole world, including its neighbours it has bullied for years. It's economy has been broadsided by the sanctions. It has become the pariah of the world, haemorrhaging customers and trading partners. It has achieved the exact opposite of what it set out to do; more Nato, not less Nato. In a strategic east-west struggle for security, it couldn't have gone any worse for Russia.
Always remember the reason that Putin gave before the invasion. He was scared of Nato expansion. Well now he will be even more scared. We can use a bigger Nato to keep Russia in check for generations.

In Russian-occupied southern Ukraine grain is being sent for export to the Middle East from the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian media report. Yevgeny Balitsky, a Moscow-appointed official, told Tass news agency that agreements had been reached with buyers in Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia. He said a deal with Iran involved supplying 150,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain

Meanwhile, Russia's Agriculture Ministry have moved quickly to dispel talk of a potato shortage:
'"The Russian market is fully supplied with potatoes, including processed ones. In addition, crops from the new harvest are already arriving, which rules out the possibility of a shortage,"

At the risk of being accused of wishful thinking, does anyone appreciate the implication of this potato shortage?
1. Russia either cannot grow enough potatoes to satisfy domestic demand, or it cannot get the potato crop to where the customers are. In particular, it can't get the potatoes to its own flagship operation of a replacement McDonald's in Moscow.
2. It can't import them to manage the shortfall either, due to sanctions.
3. We are not talking about premium, seasonal crops like asparagus or avocado. This is potato - a staple crop.
4. This is probably still just symbolic, but it is a bellwether of the coming storm for Russia.

I'm sure it will be painful as we wean ourselves off their oil & gas - but rather think it will be Russia that will suffer worse consequences.
And no potatoes either - all going swimmingly for Vlad eh?

long term sure. short term, they likely have more resilence to the effects. they can stop exporting potatoes for example, west cant suddenly find the gas to replace supply from Russia. going to be a cold harsh winter in central and eastern europe.
