You "never really used shops"?

No I don't use shops, the only time i "shop" in the real world is just before Christmas foe the wife's prezzies, this year for obvious reasons i giving it a miss this year and doing it all on line.
There is nothing i need t shop for that's not on line.

A lot of the problem is that the rules have disproportionate effects on different people. If Mrs Smith, a divorcee, drives her children the length of the country every weekend to see their father, who drives them back two days later, that's fine. If Mrs Jones, a widow, walks her child just once round the corner to see her grandfather who is the only father figure she has ever known, then Mrs Jones is breaking the rules.

Is Mrs Jones putting the nation at risk while Mrs Smith is not? Of course not. But she is the one breaking the rules. That's the sort of inconsistency that leads people to believe the rules are a nonsense, and once people believe the rules are a nonsense, they are going to ignore them.

Absolutely agree with the OP. It's also taught me that a surprisingly low number of people seem to be able to grasp the concept of delayed gratification.

The 600,000 people for whom this is their last Christmas might struggle with the concept of not hugging their grandchildren until next Christmas. The concept of delayed gratification has its downside.
