We had the same poll here about a month ago. And the general concensus on NSC was the same...it's shit.

Strangely enough I'd rather watch England play Rugby than Football. It is indeed a fine game unspoiled by Sky TV.

Love it. I liked rugby before football (hell, before I even knew such a game as football existed) and a good game of rugby beats a good game of football any day.

During the 80s and early 90s, I used to watch London Welsh as much as I watched the Albion - until they trebled the price of a season ticket after the game went professional. Since then, I only go to games occasionally (although I've been to many Welsh internationals).

I played the game for several years too - until the endless stupid songs and the cock-in-the-pint brigade finally drove me out.

Know what people mean about the rah-rah element supporting England, it's why I'd never the support them myself, even though it's the country of my birth.

I wish that footballers could pick up rugby players' habits of not disputing a decision and not feigning injuries - those are areas where rugby is undoubtedly well ahead of football.

Me too, so this season I've mainly been been watching two poor teams in both football and rugby. Only one of them underperformed big time though.

LI your analogy between Irish and the Albion is stretching it a bit, more like Watford than the Albion I reckon :) both still in with a chance but it remains an unlikely longshot.

Rugby is a better sport to watch at times and like LI said the title tends to go to the wire and the play offs add something more.

Rugby League however is wank.

As someone who also watch's London Irish at home when they play on a Sunday(Saturday's ARE FOOTBALL!!!) must admit it's better going to a game than watching on tv.
Was in France last week and after seeing Bordeaux v St.Etienne
Saturday night went to watch second division rugby game on Sunday afternoon.
It's a social event in France.
Game I saw was excellent but being Able to stand there with a beer in your hand while watching the game and and everybody from both clubs eating +drinking in the bar together before and after the match is one of the great things about rugby.
With any sport I go watch to me it's not just about the result it's the whole day out.
Yer it can make me pissed-off when we fail to win at home again
but I don't just go for the game.

Will be at Bath today watching the derby with brizzle. Both my rugby and footie teams have performed shite this year, and are both in relgation battles:(

Walkers stadium two weeks ago was fecking brilliant (Bath V Leicester), probably the best atmostphere and crowd that stadium will ever witness.

Rugby is drab, don't understand it, don't want too, content to let the fat bastards run into each other while carrying an egg, have the fans spill pints on me and tell me I don't understand rugby because I'm 'Fick'. Condescending wankers well certainly the ones I've encountered :)

Verdict is still out on rugby, I was dragged along to a few games when I lived in Edinburgh and have to say that I enjoyed the experience, although the rugby crowd in the city are a bit of an odd bunch. The atmosphere at Murrayfield was good and apart from being racially abused at one game by some Scotsmen who realised that I was English it was friendly.

I now live in what can only be described as a town that is rugby daft, haven't been to a game yet but have friends who are season ticket holders so I will probably bow to the invevitable and go to a game with them.

Used to watch Rugby League when I was in Wigan but in those days they were invincible. Will watch it now if there's absolutely nothing else on.

However was forced to play Rugby Union at school and despite making the school team (it was a very small school) learned to hate it as it was merely an excuse for thuggery. Wouldn't watch it now if you paid me.

Odd because I rather like watching Gridiron (I refuse to call it football !)

I only watch the England games, i dont mind it but prefer to watch as opposed to having my head kicked in whilst playing it!

Did you read the piece about Gloucester RFC in the Observer Sports Magazine?

Being forced to play rugby at East Grinstead Grammar School really put me off the stupid game. Looked for every opportunity to do something other than rugger and so took up hockey (very enjoyable on grass - you can keep your astroturf) and cross country. Turned out I was pretty good at the latter, but later realised that it was too much effort for too long a period.

Recall having a major argument with the sports teacher who insisted I ran for the school in the Sussex Cross Country Championships on a Saturday while I wanted to play footie for Turners Hill Youth team. The school won the argument so I ran really poorly to teach them a lesson!

Back to the subject ... rugby union is an awful and pointless game to play or watch ... rugby league is marginally better as a spectator sport.

Keep dreaming LI. You know that you will fail in the play offs and the mighty Wasps will once again triumph at Twickenham.

Having said that increae the play offs to four places does make it interesting right to the end. It would have been even more interesting had Saints won last night.

Still it is good to see "Reading not Irish" doing well. League table makes good reading for you just now.

I remember my first punch up on a football pitch. I was aged eight and we were taught how to play football. One prat picked up the ball and he was not the goalkeeper. So I hit him.

Some people are too stupid to play football and have to be rugby players.
