Rugby League = Exciting, Athletic fast paced game with skill

Rugby Union = Slow, lots of kicking and rules designed for fat slow amateurs

:lolol:

IMHO

When you look at the Wales team of the 70s and the back running French, the Dynamic All Blacks and some of the rugby played in the last world cup, Union beats League hands down.

How did a thread that was started because of my dislike for egg chasing end up being all about it?:shootself

That's the beauty of the game - that's how it gets a hold on you. :)

Hard to find any redeeming qualities in a game where you can only pass the ball backwards, you get applauded for kicking the ball into touch, and the ball bounces in a random manner. And don't get me STARTED on that comedy thing they do instead of a throw-in.

Bunch of arse!

Stop start, stop start, stop start.

Can't stand it.

Too many rah, rah, rah girls with their England shirts collars turned up.

Sums it up for me. I fail to understand the appeal of Rugby as a spectator sport. If I'm bored I will watch pretty much any sport on the box (cycling on BBC2 today for example), but I am never bored enough to watch Rugby. Faced with the choice of having a few beers and watching the 'rugger' or translating the Koran into Welsh would have me reaching for my pen and paper.

;)

And as for those hooray Henrietta's in rugby shirts with the collars turned up...

I loved playing it at uni because the blokes were nicer and less WANKERISH then the football team.

Dont mind watching it but prefer Rugby LEAGUE...

LB - thanks for the link to the news article. I hadn't realised what the reputation of the shed was, other than seeing car stickers with "Can you survive the shed" on them. It is odd that football was dragged through the mire because of racism in the game, little was heard of that problem existing in rugby, maybe because it retained its "whites only" exclusivity for longer than football so the abuse didn't happen because there were few people to abuse. Have to admit the article did shock me a little as Gloucestrians are friendly folk, laid back and welcoming, guess the shed didn't always extend that welcome.

We never did rugby at school and I was never itnerested, other than a passing appreciation of some of the Welsh rugby of the 70's (shame about the supporters). All my knowledge is from watching junior rugby - and from being bored rigid watching on the sidelines, or on the tv - I have come to appreciate it as a game - and those that play it.

If you like sport - and do not like rugby - it is probably because you do not understand it. It takes time to get to know it (many cold Sunday mornings in my case) - but it can be a great game.

I still do not know what goes on with the forwards mind. But that will come.

DKM, the school I went to (Steyning Grammar) did not have rugby until the 6th form, by then I reckon it is too late to get someone interested in a game, but to be fair that part of the country has no history of rugby at any level whatsoever so even then it was a waste of time.

I prefer rugby union to rugby league

Watch a football match, or a rugby match? Rugby match the more likely

Why?

The atmosphere between fans is so much better and you can drink in your seats :drink:

Football needs policeman to stop the handbags, rugby does not
