This kind of model works well with Network Rail and is starting to come together at BT.

Eh ? Says who ? Network Rail ? As for BT, well I guess the Post Office could outsource to the Indian Subcontinent but I don't think that will improve delivery times.

All being withdrawn at the end of the contract due to service level and cost disimprovements was the official line on BT's Indian Experiment when I left....

You have to laugh though, about a month ago I was working for BT and I couldn't understand why they were so reluctant to call their help desk. Turns out they call the same centres as people with BT Internet ! They hate it !!!

Excellent productivity! so you can deliver twice the normal load in one shift!

But you're not able to deliver 10% more?

Nope, can't work that out
Not being a Postman you wouldnt understand.
You could deliver double ammont of letters as a one off if you leave the flats envelopes and packets.

For the record I was supposed to have two Ebay items delivered today, one by Fedex and the other by Citilink. Whilst I appreciate they can't give an exact time morning or afternoon should cover it. With Citilik it took me ages to get through to arrange delivery and they assured me they would deliver 'sometime after 2PM'. Fedex assured me they would deliver around 3PM.

Citylink actually tried to deliver at just after 9AM, not even close. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get through to them but gave up in disgust. With Fedex they did a bit better, to them 3PM actually means 9:45AM. I did manage to get through to them but having been cut off I had to call again. This time I got an idiot who not only got my name wrong but she had to have the transaction ID told to her FIVE TIMES. They then told me that they couldn't deliver tomorrow as they don't deliver on Saturdays, this is despite the fact that I was told yesterday that they could. The person I spoke to rather condescendingly told me I should have been there this morning even though I pointed out that they had tried to deliver FIVE hours before they told me to expect them. I have advised both Citilink and Fedex not to bother and I have told the sellers that they need to give me a refund.

On the other hand the Post Office also tried to deliver a package to me yesterday. They just left a card so that I went to my local parcel office (which is far more local than Shittylink and Fuckingnoideaex). I went this morning, picked up the item (even though I could have had it redelivered (with the Post Office I know they deliver here between 9:30 and 11:00 AM, regular as clockwork.

At the end of the day the seller using The Post Office got his item to me with no real problem. The other two have now lost a sale.

So just how bad is the Post Office really ? I would put them in front of any of other parcel carriers any day. They have never cocked up a delivery or lost an item.

Nice hols JB?.
Deliveries are out next Saturday & then the following Friday, (the 17th or something like that).

I don't know about the other parts of the buisness.

No post for three bastard days now.

Why did I pick this month to work up an eBay addiction?

Perhaps the postal workers we have on this forum can tell me more about this dispute, because I'm not criticising the workers, in fact I think Consignia's been a crock of shit right from the start.

However, this latest cock up is really starting to mack me off now.

Does anyone have ANY faith in the postal service anymore?

Where's the competition we were meant to be allowed to choose from?

It hasn't been called Consignia since about 2003 I think.

I only JUST got my 20/20 tickets in time. They arrived this morning, despite the fact I bought them on ebay 9 days ago. Some stuff I sent at the same sort of time still hasn't arrived. An absolute disgrace if you ask me, and I would sack every postman first thing tomorrow morning.

Don't sack the posties sack the cause of the dispute Allan Leighton and Adam Crozier.
All the workforce in Royal Mail is asking for is for the senior management to negotiate fairly with us.

I remember a couple of years ago they decided to deliver our mail at around 3pm in the afternoon, but soon reverted back to the usual morning delivery.

Can't wait until rival companies start offering a decent and affordable mail service.

They won't! They are only interested in bulk business mail. Social mail is not profitable enough.

Much like the privatisation of British Rail and the changes at BT we're going to have to go through some pain before it gets better. What we need is a single door-to-door delivery service that works at set rates for competitive distribution companies who deliver to the local hubs. This kind of model works well with Network Rail and is starting to come together at BT.

You do have a single door-to-door delivery service that works at set rates it is called Royal Mail. The trouble is thanks to the regulator they are cutting up our business just so other companies can make a profit out of it. All well in advance of the proposed Europe wide postal deregulation. Typical Britain. We let companies like TNT(Holland) and DHL(Germany) come into our country and compete with our mail service before we can go into their countries and compete with theirs!

I must be lucky all the stuff i've ordered from ebay recently has arrived within the week. And most of it has come through Royal Mail.

Our have too. We haven't missed a day's mail either (it seems as though our local postmen aren't striking)

I hope you are referring to the PO chairman Leighton and ex FA Crozier:tosser:(1 million bonus this year) He wants the postmen to deliver 2 hours later each day because he says thats what people want:tosser:
Its these two that are shafting the postmen plus they say we are underworked and overpaid (9 bags a day all over 12kg) starting at 4.30am (official start time 5am)and finishing at 1pm 5 days a week for £250 take home.
You'll be getting your mail as late as 3pm if they have their way plus if your postman is off sick or on holiday you have to wait until another postman has finished his round before he does the overtime to deliver rounds that arent covered . That is why some people get their mail at teatime .
Our delivery office has cut our emplyees from 40 postman for 40 rounds to 36 postman for 40 rounds, work that out:angry:

If you don't like it, get another job, Don't go on strike whining about it and causing problems for the innocent customers of the post office.

Whether you like it or not the post office, as we know it, is on its way out and you are helping to bang the nails into the coffin of the Royal Mail.

What a shame you don't have a clue about what you're talking about. The Postal Workers are striking to save their jobs but I would imagine you're too young to have a job. When you've lived abroad as I and many others here have you'll appreciate just how good our postal service is.

In fairness to HR, Eastie does sound rather jaded.
I knew what the money was & what was expected of me when I joined RM. That was 2 years ago.
I do still really love being a postie, I never realised how pleased people were to see us out and about stop for a quick hello comment about the weather etc, it's a great job.
But it won't be in a Royal Mail management ideal world:-
- We would all only work 20-30 hours a week, on part time contracts.
- In real terms, we would have our pay cut.
- We would deliver 3 times the junk mail without a 3 fold increase in our pay for doing so.
- Sickness & holiday would have to be covered within time, even though we are at full stretch anyway.

There are plenty of other changes I've not mentioned, but all of this are on the back of new sorting machines. There doesn't seem to be any form of timetable for these to be brought in, so basically your average overstretched postie will have to suck all this up without the improvements that the changes have been implemented for.

My unit does not have enough bikes, half of what we do have are not health and safety road legal. This has been the case for at least a year, and now we are asked to trust the management when putting multi million pound machines in place, throughout the country.

It's no great surprise posties are prepared to lose a day's wages to try and get their voice heard.

It is every worker's right to withdraw their labour for industrial action as long as the majority of workers support the action (with a secret ballot so there is no coercion)
