Erm, no i'm not a "new" football/Brighton fan. I just don't see the point on getting a player in and paying him 5k a week if he simply isn't worth it. He doesn't offer much at all and there are better out there for cheaper.

How long have you properly followed football / Albion?

What do you know about Vine?

The figure bandied about on the QPR 606 board is £16k a week!

That 5k guess was precautious, i was thinking it could be anywhere up to 10k a week with the money they have up at QPR, but 16k a week is stupid money. Anyway, its unlikely he will drop below 5k a week, and for that money i think we could do a lot better. By no means am i saying he's shit, just not worth that kind of money for a club like ours.

Urm why ???

And i don't know much about him to be honest but he has never been prolific and that is what we need right now.

Because you always seem to be on here giving out bold or different opinions and don't seem to back it up with reasons... Plus you didn't seem to realise what a good side Luton had and the fact they were in the Championship doing well for a number of yrs when Vine played for them...

Nobody said he's be the prolific striker we're after but he would be a great addition to the squad in a lot of people's opinions. He does also play on the wing and as I said he used to play v well against us and often score (I remember a screamer for Luton away - think it was when Knight got sent off and we lost 3 - 0 )

Surely, if we are to sign a striker it needs to be a proven goalscorer.

I have no doubt he is a proven forward and would be a solid addition but it very much depends on what his role in the squad is.

If he is part of a front two who will link up play and create chances then great. If he is a lone striker, then I would be mildly concerned by his lack of past goals.

My feelings are that we will start as a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 Hybrid with Lua Lua and Bennett supporting Barnes for the 1st two games and Murray for as many as he is not suspended for.

No thank you. In my opinion, our link up play and ability to create chances is just fine. What we need is someone to start putting them away- Vine doesn't fit that bill.

I have asked this question many times but noody has given an opinion. Do we need to sign a man who will score 20+ goals and cost a fortune or one that can score 10 but bring Murray into play more so that he can score 20+ goals. I think it is the latter as we already have Murray and that would be a cheaper option than signing a new 20+ goals a season man at the prices that they command.

Personally? I think the latter. Murray has scored 15 a season with long periods out with injury and suspension. If this is clear then I think he will score 20+ anyway escpecially with Bennett providing.

However, a 2nd 15/20 goalscorer wouldn't go amiss...

I remember Vine at Brentford under Coppell, i think he played on the left of a 3pronged attack. His assists ratio is higher thanhis goal tally, but he is definitely useful but no he's not the 20-25 goal striker, but Murray and Barnes could be ??

i'm on the fence - would trust Gus' judgement - my point was that Gav had disreguarded him just on his goals tally (and blatantly didn't know Luton were a top Div 1 club when Vine played for em...!)

Negotiating to end his contract at QPR, as a free agent he would be a magnificent addition to our squad. I know he's been strongly linked before and he could be the marquee signing we're all looking for before the season begins.

Go on Gus, make the fans happy and go get him.

Are you taking the piss? Averages about 1 in 5 in his career, clearly not good enough

Garry Nelson scored 44 goals in 282 appearances before he joined us. I wouldn't write someone of just because of there previous record especially someone who has had a bad injury. Birmingham spent 2.5 mill on him; he can't be that bad!

Hang on
Hang on

Let me get this right.

A player with quality, who has been playing in the championship recently as 2008 is 'not good enough'

But

Leon knight, who has had 9 clubs in 5 years and has been kicked out of 5 or so, and hasn't played proper football consistently for 4 years IS?

Ok

he is a top player IF recovered from his broken leg. his record

2000–2005 Portsmouth 13 (0)
2002–2003 → Brentford (loan) 42 (10)
2003–2004 → Colchester United (loan) 35 (6)
2004–2005 → Luton Town (loan) 45 (9)
2005–2007 Luton Town 57 (22)
2007–2008 Birmingham City 17 (1)
2007–2008 → Queens Park Rangers (loan) 18 (4)
